I bought this car in '75 and sold it to an old cowboy movie actor in Bishop, CA. Car was green in '68 with gold interior, chromed undercarriage and plexigl*** floor panels. Named "Lil Confusion", it was selected as a Portland Roadster Show Hall of Fame car for 1968. When I bought it in '75 it was painted purple with flames. Always wondered what happened to it?
I heard Meeks worked on it, but don't think he owned it. The transmission mount was just pieces of channel iron welded together - no coping, or fitting - and then chromed over the welds & spatter.
Yes that WAS Russ MEEKS and some of his EARLY WORK, HE BUILT IT.. ( world famous Bonneville racer now...) We ALL learn along the way..... and he sold it to House of Hardtops owners.. I wonder if Phil Shaffer did the flames and stripping? I also wonder what happen to it... the MEEKS KID is on here, maybe he will chime in... CEDRIC are ya here kid...?
Well just to clear things up a bit. Yes that was Built and Owned by my friend Russ Meeks. It has changed hands again in just the last few weeks and is currently Owned by Russ and his Son along with the Nomad. They both will begin the journey back to former glory as in the way they were. Stay tuned. The Wizzard
I wonder if Phil Shaffer did the flames and stripping?
I thought it was possible Phil did the purple with flames. It was a great job. Seems like there was a hood, or just the top part, that was painted to match. Can't remember for sure now.
I have not gone over to walk around it as of yet so no first hand info. If I remember correctly he said it had been in pieces over 20 years but still a solid car. No doubt it will go to bare bones and come back without any of the post Russ changes left to be seen. His Son learned very well how it's done and this is not his first ground up build. The Wizzard
glad to hear they got the car back. My grandfather and I talked to Russ and Cedric at the Forest Grove Concours and at that time they were still trying to get it back. Awesome another Portland area custom from the 60's is coming home. Taboo was getting lonely with most of them leaving the state, lol.
Current info per text conversation. The car has not made the trip home as of yet. That will happen in November but the deal is made and done. It's not a drive across town and pick it up thing. The Wizzard
