I bought the Carter Weber dual carb setup from Tom Langdon but haven't put them on yet. I got the dual carb Offenhauser intake....its supposed to be a good setup.

A couple of pics of my project engine. It's got an S10 T5 transmission bolted to it. It will all happen when I stop being lazy and bolt them on. 20180816_185428.jpg 20180816_185503.jpg

That’s a pretty sweet setup you got there. I’ll look into the carter or Holley carbs. I found a fuel pump at oreilly for about 45. Rock auto has them for around 20, but I’ve learned the hard way, you usually get what you pay for

I didn’t see it on your motor, but what is the thing between the distributor and fuel pump that comes out of the block and turns under the truck?

You will likely get a lot of different opinions on what the best carb is. It's like "what's the best oil" question lol!

It's called a road draft tube. It's for crankcase ventilation. It was used before PCV valves came about. (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)

:D Ah yes.Ignition problems CAN drive one up the wall rather quickly. On an easy way to fill the float bowl.I have an old metal funnel from a Coleman refill kit.Just put a short piece of fuel hose on it,and stick that on the bowl vent.No fuss.No muss.Easy fill.No spill.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

I guess no one around me carries the fuel pump in stock, so I had to order it online. After I see that the engine is going to work ok, I’m gonna start on body work and getting rid of surface rust. I’m really in no hurry, so it will just be a little here and there (that’s what I keep telling myself anyways)

I'd get it running and driving first. The other work can always be attended to after. You need to have it on the road so there is no chance that the project stalls.

replace your condenser (the little round thingy by the points) or ground check the little ground wire inside the distributor and your engine to body ground...put some extra ground wires here and there it can't hurt....you don't need a fuel pump to get it running. I use a gatorade bottle hung from the hood take the top off the "sports lid" attach your fuel hose to the ****** and to your carb....oh and if gas starts pouring down the carb your float is stuck

I’m sure the carb is all gunked up. I foresee a carb overhaul coming soon

Thanks. I’ve watched a couple of videos and read most of what I can find online

Would it be a bad idea to soak it before I completely dis***emble it, to try and loosen things up?

I have always dis***embled them, cleaned the parts with a gasoline rinse, and then soaked the parts. Keeps the Chemdip a bit cleaner if that makes sense.

Did you have your fuel can sitting on the floor? Keep in mind that mechanical fuel pumps aren't very well designed to draw air through them. They like to have an ample supply of liquid fuel on the inlet (suction) side of the pump. Air, instead of liquid, in the inlet hose is essentially what happens under a vapor lock condition.

Your old pump may in fact be shot. But even a good pump may act a bit flakey trying to draw air up the fuel line from a fuel can sitting on the floor. If possible, try to prime the inlet hose and pump with liquid fuel and set the can somewhere close to level with the fuel pump. Just make sure it can't be easily tipped or knocked over.

I had the gas can sitting beside the fuel pump. I’ve already ordered a new pump, but I’ll try priming the line and if it works, then I’ll have a backup. Thanks for the tip

Some years ago, I drove my '71 Torino to work; Tried to go home, wouldn't start... Car sat there for a few days, until I figured if out.... The condenser was bad..... A few years ago, something in my MSD distributor, went bad also..... Just trying to help you, make the best choice....

I got the new fuel pump on today and started working inside the cab ( pulled everything out and started freshening everything up). It will definitely need a carb rebuild. It sprays gas out of it[

Good deal! Glad it's running. I'm not sure what that bracket is but it looks like an a.c. bracket maybe? I've never seen one like that.

Congrats on getting it running. I think that's an AC bracket too, maybe for one of those old Yorks.

No it requires an adapter plate. There are several around on the market.
