Actually several of the "good" Lark examples posted by Gary were cars that gave me insipration and there is a 20 year gap between these cars

All you guys quoting history trying to act like the Silver Dollar didn't exist but there it is. You can pickup a vintage HotRod magazine and find it right in there, there's no arguing about it.
No where did I say that all the cars were like that, unlike those saying there were never cars like that. Believe me, I was born in 66 so of course I wasn't at the track watching it at 1,2 or 3 years old, but I sure have read tons of vintage magazines and studied plenty on the subject watching old films and such.
Also everyone knows what was going on on the west coast wasn't what was going on on the east coast or the midwest. So you really can't say at this exact time they did it this way only, because it was different depending on where you lived.

I've read many times that hardtops were not g***ers. They were. That four doors were not g***ers. They were.

On the low buck local level, guys tried all sorts of things and built what was affordably available to them. I'm going to run steel wheels (painted silver but not smoothies or hub caps) because they are affordable and work.

  4. Ya know I don't really dislike you (some have accused me of that in the past) but there is a slight difference between hot rodding and racing. Racing had rules and the rules were the same coast to coast.

Some of the high rollers found ways around the rules, like Ohio George for example who got away with running coil overs because one of his sponsors (Monroe) managed to get their coil overs called stock replacement shocks. But the rest of the world was relegated to the rules as they were written. Some rules that he tried to beat got him black flagged too, I guess that it really was against the rules to fill your spare tire with concrete. :D

Whenever this G***er argument comes up, we need to use this quote from P&B.
"...there is a slight difference between hot rodding and racing. Racing had rules and the rules were the same coast to coast."

  7. Of course, ****** makes a good point when it comes to NHRA national rules.
However, some local tracks had their own rules..sanctioned or not.
Example: The SEGA cars aren't required to run any kind of grille. However, NHRA dictated some semblance of one. Note the SWC cars, and even Quain's own Willys, use the 58 Ford type mesh, rather than the heavier pot metal casting. If a grille wasn't required , those boys wouldn't have had one at all. Trust me.
I suspect the no grille thing might have come from the unsanctioned "outlaw" tracks in the Southeast..Just guessing on this.

****** since you don't like me I reckon I'll call you out on something. Your Facebook profile says you were born in 1971, so how were you watching all these G***ers racing back in the day ?
