I have taken everyone's advice and changed the coil on my 41 Ford to the Bosch Blue #00012. The car is 12V and has a crab style distributor. What condenser should be used with the Bosch coil? Bubba says the crab coil needs .25 MFD so what condenser should I buy?
Echlin FA-54 is a great condenser to use on a stock ignition. It also has the standoff tab for mounting to the crab housing.
Your crab housing should have a small drilled/tapped hole on the side, at about 9 o'clock when looking at it from the front. This is where the condenser mounts to. The FA-54 condenser works well regardless of the coil you're using with the early Ford ignitions.
I know where the condenser originally went - what I want to do is mount it close to the coil as in 50's and 60's Ford/Chevy
Never seen a points condenser mounted near the coil on 60s GM cars. I have seen radio noise suppressors mounted on coils of that time period.
The coil came from a VW so why not use a VW condenser? I have put many VW's on and have never had trouble but then I had a large box of them to start with.
