Have been looking for these for the 54. All my side chrome was attached using these, which were probably not factory. I like them because the chrome pieces easily? snap on or off. I know there are other types, but thought i would put this out there. Thanks for any input...
they are factory years ago they could be found easily at bigger swap meets hershey etc.try googleing the part # stamped on it.DC carries the tool to install cheap I had to make one years ago.I am sure someone will chime in some names of suppliers been to many years for me there were a few in Pennsylvania probably still are.they work excellant as Ford intended but you need the tool to make life easy
the factory fastener #is357862-S8 if you can not find # on clip it will be different than this as this is Ford # from memory it was a 4 digit#from supplier they used several similar clips make sure you order right ones if you find some good luck
I bought some reproduction clips from Dennis Carpenter and they are a PITA to use,I opted for the ****erfly clips that are universal and easy to work with, I used them to install all the stainless on our '54 Ford. HRP
I would suggest Restoration Specialties. They are a company out of Pennsylvania. They are the guys Dennis Carpenter recommended I check with. They had everything I needed for my '55. www.restorationspecialties.com
without the tool they are impossible to install with the tool easy peasy to remove and install stainless with one hand by yourself no need for a pair of hands on inside and a pair on outside to help so as not to scratch paint.but to each their own. customline is probably right on where to buy but do buy the tool as the tool was not available when I did mine I made one
Thanks for the responses. I will check into the ****erfly clips as a replacement. Jim. now back to sanding. (yuck)
x3 on the ****erfly clips. Just be aware some of the clips will have threaded posts for nuts on the inside of the car, and some will be push/snap in. I do believe the square trim holes are for the snap-ins and the round ones are for the threaded posts. The round holes are located in areas that are easily accesible from the inside, and the push ins are for areas you can't reach. At least that's the way the holes were designed on my '57. A good paint supply shop should have a variety available. btw, I opted for the nylon ones for the push ins
