Trying to mock up my 34 Ford frame to see how things fit. I bought it in parts. The trans and banjo are both 1934 items. The problem is that it seems that the trans is a 1/4” to far to the rear so I can install the trans bolts. Should the rear spring be lose from the cross member so things can move? What is the trick to doing up the nuts on the bottom of the torque tube?
Well I think if you had a Motor bolted to the Trans the Trans mount holes would be in the correct place to get the bolts in. Then when trying to couple up the Torque tube you'd need to compress the spring or set the weight of the Car down on it to get the Tube to connect to the Trans. It's a Math thing, spring pushes the Axle down and draws the Tube with it pulling it away from the gear box. You don't have a problem just not enough parts in place yet. The Wizzard
That makes sense. I was able to do up the trans by dropping the spring. Trying hook at 283 to it so I hope I get it in the right spot!
V8 & 4 cyl torque tube and driveshaft 33-34's are a different length. The 4cyl torque tube and driveshaft is longer.
Installing a SBC is a non issue. Get everything bolted up (don't forget the extended pilot bushing) and set the Trans mounts in place and install the bolts and biscuits. Second is the front mounts. You may need a spacer between front mount and block to get front biscuits in properly. ***umeing you have a V-8 rear housing unit things will all come together. I don't think it's time to go shopping for a 4Cyl tube and shaft yet. Myself, (I'm kind of weird) I would not get all carried away with the rear spring. In fact I quite often totally remove it, take it apart and install just the main leaf. This will correctly locate the rear axle. Then make 2 spacers to go under the frame flange and sit on top of Axle housing placing the car at desired ride hight. Tack weld them in place and move on with building the complete project. Once done you have total weight of the Car to help with spring installation. Don't let the little **** get you all fussed up. The Wizzard
Good advice Wizzard! I don’t need the bushing for mock up correct? I am using original hurst mounts and it looks like they bolt to the side of the frame.
Correct on the bushing however I'd advise to Not install the clutch disc either if no bushing. Keeps from loosing track of what you did and didn't do. The Wizzard
You are using the 34 spring, aren't you? Its curved. If you are, I'd think Pist-n-Broke hit the nail on the head. Farmalldan
