I got the narrow original style stamped arms (Mustang II) on the frontend that's in my 54 Chevy. I want to bag the car but I can't seem to find any bags or arms that work with this style lower arm. Any suggestions?
I think you have to use a cool ride system. shockwaves need to have tubuler arms. check cool cars or air ride's site.
So should I use the set-up I got or switch out the whole thing to tubular arm style set-up? I can do either, I just want it right and flat on the pavement when it's all said and done.
my opinion is that you get the tubular a arms, it will give you a little more clearance. I ran the factory a arms with those bags, it worked but didn't ride quite smooth because of the angle of the bag. I would go with Southern Rod's lower a arms for only $200 pr.
OK if I change over to A-arm lowers, are they going to clear the crossmember? It's a stock style too. Has about a 3/4" lip across the bottom. When changing over do I have to sleeve the inside of the crossmember or what? This is my first Mustang II. As if that isn't obvious.
you'll have to weld some gussets but i think it comes with some. OTher than that, no other work should be needed.
http://www.zigsstreetrods.com/Pages/mustang2.html Retro fit kit about the middle of the page. Know anything about that kit? Be cheaper to piece it together maybe?
I would watch out for those Southern Rods lowers- The crossmember through bolts that came with the f100 front I did last year were metric instead of 5/8", which created goofiness when welded/drilled. Even more of a ***** though were the metric shock bolts. Stock MII shocks have a 7/16" hole in the sleeve. The metric shock bolts they use wouldn't go through the sleeve without MAJOR persuasion, and wouldn't come back out at all. When I confronted them on the phone, they more or less told me to "stick it" I ended up making my own sleeves and pressing them into the shocks. I realize that airbag lowers are probably different, what with external shock mounts and such, but if they're made by the same folks as the ones I had--- well, I'd go somewhere else. The money's only better if the time spent is the same......... My .02
Yep. No strut rods required as long as you weld a gusset to the backside of the front crossmember like mentioned above.
40,000 miles on my 40 with stock lower a arms and brackets similar to speedway's I dont care for the tubular "wide" lower control arms, I actually like the strut rod.. small firestone bags, an upper mount from suicidedoors.com and you should be good..
