Kinda O/T What is your everyday car Import or American

'98 Bonneville (best car I've ever owned) 6 passenger,plenty of power,great cruiser, and 30mpg and '98 S10 4wd pu.
I hate to say it but my next ones will probably be Honda or Toyota. I haven't seen an American car lately that gets me excited,so I'll just settle for reliability.

 

Just a question with no malice intended, what year did Ford start building F-150s in Mexico? My '89 was built in Wayne, MI.

BTW,to whoever mentioned the lack of rods as daily drivers, back here in salt country a lot of us want to keep 'em from becoming a big pile of rust in 2 years. I've got a '64 Ford Custom, but it ain't my daily driver...

 

03 Hyundai Elantra, 70,000 miles on it in just over 2 years, had to put tires on it at 65,000...and the usual oil changes....2nd one we've owned, 1st one had over 102,000 when we sold it, same thing, original clutch was still in it as well!!

We also have a 98 Mercury Villager (Its a Nissan Quest with a Merc badge)

And the 63 Valiant wagon will be the daily when its finished...

 

Foreign cars are what kept food on the table in my home growing up. My dad has worked for a Honda dealership for over 22 years. So it was always foreign daily drivers (mostly Hondas) and American rods. It's still that way in my home now -- wifey drives an 87 Honda Civic and I drive this (06 Scion xB):

Made in the USA by a primarily American owned company, (General Motors,) but since it's corporate stock is sold to anyone buying it, who knows if it's an American company or not.
For instance, the "American" Company that makes Crash Test Dummies in Plymouth, Michigan is owned, (or was owned when I quit working for them,) mostly by the British Coal Miner's Union.

I'm not sure who the corporate stock holders were in 1972 when it was built but the company is currently owned by GERMAN BMW corporate owners
Currently I'm going through the brakes since all the rubber seals and hoses have started oozing brown fluid through their old age cracks. I don't consider MG "foreign" since I'm 1/2 British.

As far as who own's Corporate HONDA of AMERICA, well, I do, at least I own some tiny amount of stock in it, and Wife works for HRA (Honda) so all the money paying for the Honda is coming from Honda.

Someone mentioned F 150's were built in Mexico. I think that's true, depending on what year they were built.
That's part of NORTH AMERICA, but most people who seem to give a shit about where other people's cars are built seem to be mostly concerned with where the Corporate headquarters are AND where a car was built.
So that let's out ALL the new DODGES and CHRYSLERS since they are owned by GERMAN MERCEDES and as much a GERMAN IMPORT as a HONDA built in OHIO is JAPANESE.

My primary used to be a 1988 Chevy Astro Van, buil in Michigan but when the tape deck crapped out I took it apart to see if I culd fix it and found out the tape deck part inside the "Hecho en Mexico" radio was "assembled in Korea under Blaupunkt liscense"

05 Scion (because I can get in it without bumping my head). 87 chevy 3/4 ton(big parts chasing). 59 Morris Minor, (tubed frame, sbf,4:11 geared, a real 10 minute car). 51 ford (channeled, sectioned and chopped) great cruiser. Waiting in the wings is a 70 VW (tubed frame, 350 sbc, fiberglass tilt front end, another 10 minute car). About the 10 minute cars..,I'm old, and ten minutes of fun is all I can stand at one time. Farther back in the wings is a 48 Austin A40 (also tubed, with a 401 nailhead and 400 tranny).

 

I drive my 31 Ford coupe as often as possible (10 years), my 39 Ford pickup for hi speed or to pull my carhauling trailer (14 years) my 35 Ford pickup (14 years, but its apart now), my 57 chevy wagon for camping out at swapmeets (I sleep inside) some long trips, cuz its got A/C (about 10 years) Sometimes I drive the 59 Ford I built for my son to drive out of state to college. He graduated and gave it back. We've driven it about 7 years. I almost never drive my 66 Chrysler convertible. (10 years) I am building a 26 T coupe on an A chassis. I like'em the older, the better. I have never owned a new car or one newer than 1966. I am positive I never will buy a new or almost new car. Why would I? I have many ol cars to drive.

2003 F-150 would be mine and 2004 Ford Escape would be hers. I just like the fact that the F-150s never seem to die. My dad and I both have put over 200,000 mls. on different Ford trucks.

Well, I have an 06 Magnum for work, but that was made in Ontario. It only has the 2.7L V6, so it is a real dog. But a free car is a free car right?

I also have a 91 Suburban 3/4 ton...With 220,000 on the clicker.

 

Actually the most popular vehicle worldwide! There was a statistic back in 1998 that more F150's were sold than any other car worldwide period!

Personally I drive a 2003 Ford Explorer, made in Michigan. Everything else is old and American.

I drive a 99' Chevy 2wd ext cab, its my company truck has over 150K and still running strong, the best part free gas. My personnel truck is a 04' F-150 lariet 4x4 crew cab, wife drives a 03' Hyundai Elantra.

 

Subaru is owned by Fuji Ind, last time I looked thats a Japenese owned company. It may be assembled here, by employees with half the benifits of their American counterparts. GM did own a stake of Subaru but sold it last year I think.

'02 subaru wrx stationwagon. sleeper action is very neccessary. i commute about a 100 miles a day to 28mpg is real nice. the 227hp and a 5 speed make the drive fun.

My Town & Country is American made by Chrysler, who is owned by a German company, and my Nissan was made in Mississippi by a Japanese owned company. Pedegrees are blurred.

I have a Chevy Prizm so that's American, right? Wrong - it's actually a rebadged Toyota Corolla and I love it. 30 MPG, full power, good stereo and the A/C will freeze my nipples off. I drive anywhere between 300 to 600 miles aweek for work and at $3.00+ for gasoline, that mileage helps.

as of right now i drive an 06 dodge magnum srt8 daily 425hp 14-20mpg , but im going to be selling it soon, after i finish my 31 coupe the magnum wont be driven enough to justify owning it.
