160 + in a 74 vette with the top down through the cornfields of southern Illinois.Dave is the only guy (and his car) that I would trust going that fast.
Killed the SS we were racing.
Hairy ass SBC with tall gears and a Doug Nash 5 speed.(also huge Nascar brakes )
Now the car sits in storage with a "fancy" pearl white paint job.

don't have a clue how some guy's can go so fast ,but the fastest I thought I
was going was with my childhood buddy George in a 1962 chysler Imperial
going down I-75 to whitesburg after leaving 2nd shift running between 100
to 110 mph ,ride was like setting on a couch or something . Then God'alful noise, banging, thunping .Then back to smooth, quiet ride. George says" Damn"
that was one of my new recapped tires just lost it's tread.

  9. We got this propotype Coevette a few years back at work. It had one of those "horsepower keys" in the dash, where if you gave it to the valet, you also took the key. Key was in, and my roomate at the time got it for the weekend. Sunday comes around, and he says "hey, you want the car for a few hours"? Hell yeah. Checked the oil, filled the tank, and went south on a not-heavily-travelled section of highway. At 134 (indicated), the highway went over an underpass, and there was a wrinkle in the pavement surface. Enough of a "bump" to have the car set only slightly off-line for a moment. The Vette didn't flinch, but I about ate my stomach. I backed it down from 130-whatever and drove the speedlimit all the way back home.

Didn't learn my lesson, though. 4 years later I was doing at least 130 on a Ducati 748 on the same stretch of road. Different sensation. This time it was like the hounds of hell were trying to rip me out of the seat.

Never had the urge to do that again on a public road. Not recommended, either.

178 MPH on I-80 near sacramento, time to go faster!

Power commander, timing mod, and dyno tuned.

  13. 147 mph riding shotgun with an retired Federal Marshal. Shocking how street suspension sucks in a 4600lb car at that speed, hitting the stops over shadows.

On the way home from a dragrace, nice weather, wide open road, I pressed the accelerator a bit further untill it wouldn't go any further. In my '30 RPU... 327 Chevy, TH 350, little cam, nothing really special. I calculated it to be somewhere between 105 and 110.
All I can tell is that with speeds like in a roadster, you need two hands to hold your hat!

in the '63 chev pu the speedo stops at 100... but i past a friend once and his nova was pegged on 120. i was movin too fast to see it in his window, but i believe him! :)

been 165+ twice on a crotch rocket...
    (not proud of that)
i was smart enough to sell it after the 2nd time at that speed.
    (i am proud of that)

high speeds are not for me anymore... i now prefer the quick overtake or the slow gin cruz... but i'm gettin old.

  16. Almost fast enough, if I told how fast I suspect on more than one occasion or even the ones that I can probably prove someone will say its not possible.

I'll have to admit that its not probable but possible is an entirely different story. Never the less I'm comming into this post late and the first liar never stands a chance.:D

In 1980 I was clocked @ 118 on the back straight on the mile track @ San Jose, that was considered pretty fast at the time. 750 cc H/D cost ??? not my ride, experience, well lets just say that from the day I saw my first heat race on that track one of my life's goals was to ride that track.

A buck twenty seems to be about my limit. My shovelhead went 120, my last sled went 122 on radar, Most of the cars I ever owned struggled to bury the peg. My 69 Ford crewcab will bury the peg at 100 quite handily. I don't think I ever went over 140 anfd that was riding shotgun in my buddys 70 1/2 Z28

How's this for a list of time slips? I didn't drive--Our car was set up for 1/8 mile fastest I ever went in it was 4.22@219.(that's eigth mile, folks.)

1/4 however-here is a typical test and tune session-Pro Mod style!
    7.32@164.71
    7.46@179.71
    8.44@112.50 (spun)
    7.54@169.24
    8.79@112.95-no n.o.s. (empty)
    14.73@65.81-SEVERE TIRE SHAKE!

from here, you can see where a cool, sticky track is way better than a hot greasy one!
this little adventure in tuning only cost the owner about 5 grand!( funny thing is, the next morning, with new tires and a full bottle, he set a track record @7.07-and I still don't know why! everything else was still the same! guess we nailed the "cold" tune up.)

I've got the slips to prove it!

    fastest I've ever gone is about 550mph.......in a 747

in a car, 140mph on thompson international speedway. Driving my 4 cylinder vw engined midget. you try going 140 into a turn without lifting when you've got a 72" wheelbase.

  23. ZR1 , I painted on one once.....yes I had to test drive it, and yes I had the valet key ;) :)

    1986 GSXR 750 that I bought wrecked.
It had all the speed parts on it.
I often pinned the speedo that went to 165, so I really don't know
    how fast it really went.
Once went from Miller's Falls to Fall River in an hour and fifteen minutes, but
I did stop for a smoke halfway....

    regards,

165 mph on the back of Steve Rapp's Formula Xtreme Suzuki (with two up seat to joy ride journalists around VIR).

    152 mph in my buddy's '84 Corvette.

130 mph test riding a Triumph Speed Triple. The bike had lots more but I ran out of road.

i've had my Escort wagon around 115 and it was still going but i was afraid it might self destruct so i let off. walking sucks!!

i had my 80 Camaro (back in the day) around 130 when i blew the motor while racing a (then) new LS1 Firebird (around 95 or so). that was stupid.

i had a BRAND NEW 96 Z28 SS about 110 on the freeway on ramp before we even got onto the E-way. the salesman was sitting right next to me and loving every second of it. me and my buddy used to test drive new cars all the time just to beat the shit out of them and see what they would do.we had a 96 Eagle Talon all wheel drive turbo up in the buck twenty neighborhood too. some old lady (somehow) managed to follow us back to the dealership about 20 miles to chew us out for supposedly cutting her off going 90+... HA HA HA... stupid kids! :D

    120 on my '33 Vicky.

  29. 75 on my 53 bel air - I know, I know, I'm all hot rod and show off, and racking the pipes off, taking off quick yada yada blah blah but I never get it up to any real speeds.. Although Mrs. Ingus has taken it up faster, she won't comment on just how fast but don't hold your breath for something impressive. Even the most hopped up 235 is still gonna lick balls with that 1953 stock lawnmower transmission, closed driveline and 4.11's.

The rest are all newer than 64 so I can't comment on those here, but I have been over 200MPH on I40 quite a bit. Those were the days, young, dumb, and full of... beer.

If ya don't use it, you lose it. Happened to me anyway. I've been slow dancing with the sled for so long now 75MPH feels like I'm about to break mach 1.

At least 130 in my first car, a 1964 Chrysler Newport 4-dr sedan. Was racing my buddy in his '78 NewYorker (318 2bbl) to his house. We both had 120 speedos, but both were buried and I completed the pass. BB Chryslers have no limit it seems, and mine was completely stock w/ 2bbl carb and all.

Highest confirmed time was the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Disney World. 120.83 mph on a one-mile tri-oval. Those cars really stick to the corners.
