Hot Rods The Cornfield Streamliner build

Since 2013 I have had the idea to build a streamliner styled after the red head. after years of trying to get some guys to join up with me and help out i decided to just do it on my own. I am dedicating weekends and evenings to this car as money permits. I got started on the chassis last weekend. i have about 30 hours in total to this point. hopefully about done bending and notching tube, then i can move onto axles and suspension

Neato Mike...you are just the type to pull this off in elegant style...obviously you have the Bonneville bug and I think there's a hat waiting for you...your gonna pilot it right?

Any thoughts on motive power for the swoopy beast?

Thank God someone with the chops and the balls is building a classic streamliner without tripping over his own feet. You had my attention with the drawings. And the cage/frame shows serious intent. Needs to have the blower in front of the engine to keep the profile low and be an Old School Haul Ass Special. And I like your inspiration, never laid eyes on it but Hot Rod Magazine had pictures. Looks like a pylon racer sans wings.

Freakin awesome. That's a helluva lot of cutting, bending, notching done in 30 hours! I'll be following the build for sure.

 

Should be COOL.

 

If it comes out like the drawings, that is going to be one sexy car!

 

Looks great and should be an interesting build. If I could ask, is that 1 3/4" tubing on the main cage longerons and verticals, or some other size? What wall thickness, and is it chrome moly (my guess), DOM or just "regular" welded seam tubing? I'm also curious of the centerline radius of your tubing bends.

Per the SCTA rule book roll cages must be 1 5/8 OD .120 wall DOM. You can use 4130 but they would rather you didn't. Welded seam tube (pipe) is not allowed at all.

 

neat car . I love the shop too. your radius gauges are cool looking essential items.

Rich alluded to it, but do you have a SCTA Rulebook current is best. Don't guess on things, don't go on previous experience alone, take photos, as you have heard or read the SCTA is different and has different specs than anyother competition venue. Don't assume anything. There are people and #'s to call if the spec doesn't make sense to you. Every rule for safety in the book was written in blood. At 200-300-now 400 things happen fast and there are no walls to scrub off speed.

the roadster has a thread on here "the Rouster roadster" it is a 2 seater street legal car we based on a watson. its all hand built in our shop

thanks i have a stack of rule books, as well as am in constant contact with SCTA inspectors that are friends of mine as well as Kiwi steve (head tech inspector) . i have helped out in tech for a few years and got some experience there but am still sending pics and asking questions along the way you make sure i dont have any issues. i am also planning on taking the car out before it is finished a couple times in different stages to get it pre inspected in case there are issues

Great looking job, you put a lot of thought into that chassis. It will be a treat to see a Streamliner with a style reminiscent of the 50's and 60's. What are your plans for drive train ? My only question is, will a quickchange rear axle fit through the uprights in the chassis, or will you have a removable lower tube section. Here again, I will be following, as I am building a Lakester at present, and appreciate the fine metal shaping you do.
