I have a 1959 292 that I am in the process of adding some performance parts to. When I went to remove the oil pan I noticed that the head of the drain bolt is pretty well rounded off. I've been searching for a new one, but can't seem to find the correct plug. The only ones i can find show a 1/2-20, but the threads on my drain plug are significantly larger. Any ideas?
Replacement drain plugs have been available for decades in self tapping oversizes which is probably what you have now, your best bet is probably at NAPA take the old one with you they can check it with a caliper then go up one more size. Or you may have to take this route: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CLODyuzRsN0CFdCEYgodLXsCug
CASCO's catalog show oil pan plugs in two sizes - 7/8 (55-56) and 1/2 (57). They also show an oversize one for both sizes, I don't know what that means. Gaskets shown also. I would ***ume that a 59 would have the smaller size, but your car may have an earlier pan
Interesting, I must have the earlier pans on both my '59 y block and my '62. Looks like Mac's has the one I need, but it must not have come up searching for those years. Thanks for the ***istance.
I totally agree with Paul in regards to ekl--macs casco has a web sits check under cl***ic bird or google casco
