The humungous one would be worth the space and weight just for the car show dialogues you could get into...
    "What kinda motor's that??"

    The Chrysler straight-8 marine engines
    were made, virtually unchanged, from
the early -1930's, right through into the
    early-1950's. There were two different
    straight-8 Chrysler marine engines too
    - the 324 cubic-inch "Royal 8", based on
    the standard Chrysler car straight-8
    engine - and the bigger, 385 cubic-inch
"Crown Imperial 8" marine engine, based
on the 1931 and up Chrysler Imperial car
engine. Both the "Royal" and the "Crown
Imperial" marine engines are are still fairly
common in some of older boat boneyards
and the cylinder blocks. heads and most of
the other mechanical parts too - other than
the manifolds and few other 'marine specific'
parts - will interchange with their respective
Chrysler and Chrysler Imperial car engine
    counterparts.

What would be a reasonable asking price for one of these set ups? So if I understand correctly they fit the Chrysler and Desoto blocks, but not Plymouth and Dodge?

I have been told that not much interchanges from marine to automotive engines, that some of the blocks have oil ports to feed the reduction gear ect. I know someone who has alot of experience on the crowns and Royals, I will ask for specifics.

If these don't fit the other blocks, how hard is it to convert a Plymouth to Chrysler power? I'm very fond of the early Plymouths....

The Chrysler/DeSoto 237 - 251 - 265 engines will fit in a Plymouth with a little work. The engine bolts up to the bellhousing, the problems are at the front end. The big engine is 2" longer. You need to relocate the motor mounts and move the rad forward. Some cars have the motor mount bolt holes already drilled in the frame.

If your Plymouth or Dodge was made in Canada the big engine is already in there. The Canadian engine foundry only made 1 engine, the Chrysler/DeSoto block, and they juggled the bore and stroke to make the smaller displacement models.

The 265 crankshaft and rods will fit the 237 - 251 block, the blocks and pistons are all the same, they got different displacements by changing the crank stroke. Then they had to shorten the rods to use the same pistons.

A good block can be bored 1/8". With a 265 crank that gives you 284 cu in. 200HP should be within reach, with a few common hop up tricks.

Cut the firewall,...Or, be really creative, and run a "split radiator,...half of it on each side, outboard of the engine...... yes, it has been done!!!

Where is this intake/exhaust unit from? Chrysler inline six cylinder flathead 25 inch long head. Cast iron with dual carb and dual exhaust. Original number in cast is 1407907-1. Probably from truck application.[IMG]

I had a dual carb and exhaust manifold setup from a large 413 6-Cyl truck that I was mocking up on my 1950 Chrysler 331 straight eight engine, the ports line up with the intake but not the exhaust. I did modify the intake manifold and had to close 2 ports off for the intake to line up. Did not get it running before sold it all to get a Hemi.

That would be a Dodge truck or possibly a Marine (boat) engine.

    Same engine as the DeSoto - Chrysler car 1937 - 1954, Dodge truck 1937 - 62 and Canadian made Plymouth - Dodge - DeSoto - Chrysler 1938 - 1959.

Also used in M***ey tractors and combine harvesters and industrial engines.

Past weekend I was digging around looking for stuff for my 50 Plymouth flathead in the 23" version. Here are a few pics of some stuff I found. First 3 are photo's of high compression alum head with cast headers and alum dual intake and then photo's of a 12 port head with overhead conversion & lots of wild stuff. Very pricey. Jimmie
