Deuces like this one here, the Ken Gross Roadster or the Rodriguez/Gibbons Roadster perfectly nail the late 40's look which I favor so much. The Jim Kipp Roadster was built by the Pete Chapouris gang and I wonder if anybody has more pics of it ?
Thanks for everybody's input ! The Deuce looks great with hoodsides ! I also found another pic but I sure would like to see more details like interior, dashboard, engine etc.Yes,especially the Flatty as it is build by Art Chrisman.
...yeah, I know,...I've been told I sound like a broken record, but this type of car proves what I've been sayin'...Black on Black, on Black...what a sweet roadster...
Larry, I totally agree with the all black look as shown on my Vicky. I've been thinking about 17" black wires for the rear of my roadster and 16" black wires for the front..............Is that your black 3 window? Could you post a couple of pics?.Thanks, Mike
...yes, she's mine. Where you been hidin'? I've posted so many pics of her this year during the build that I had people tellin' me to give it a rest already. ...maybe they were just jealous... I remember postin' on your thread about how nice your car is...looks alot better than with WWWs... here's a few pics...
Larry...It's absolutely beautiful.I love the fact that it has glossy paint. Very tastefully done. I've never seen it before....You don't really think that there are some simple-minded,jealous cry babies on this site ,do you?
These cars prove again, when it somes to styling, the factory got it right. Chuck off fenders and other unnecessary ding dongs, chop it, lower it....but there ain't much in the way of styling "mistakes" to fix. The everything black look is hookin me too.
I love that roadster. That is the ultimate hot rod in my eyes (32 roadster that is). And this example shines! I like the beehive, wheel/tire combo, non-dropped axle, khaki top and how they used a stock spilt wishbone. Yes, one wicked roadster.
I know were getting a little of topic, but larry, I like the military cushions. I had'nt seen those before.
An interesting detail about this (Kipp) car, and the Doane Spencer car, is that neither runs a dropped axle -- and yet they both have an excellent stance. I'd be interested to know what other lowering means were used, front and rear, and what the tire sizes are to result in such an "athletic" look without extreme lowering being used.
What a nice roadster !!! Love the stance ... anyone know the tire combo ? Again it is all in the details like the leather straps that hold the hood down! I love it , thanks for posting this car !!! W.
The stock, undropped front axle does a lot for the whole look of the car if not everything.Same with the Spencer car although that one has bobbed frame horns and a different frame/front suspension treatment,I like both versions.I'd say the tires are 6.00-16 Firestone on the front end and 6.50-16/7.00-16 on the back.Perfect choice for a 40's style Deuce Roadster. The Spencer car definitely has bigger rear tires resulting in more rake but to get the "true" 40's feeling a more level stance is desired.
I think I prefer this car to Ken Gross' one, not being picky but I feel Gross' '32 is "overdone" as in it has everything that money can buy. This is more "real" to me. They are both nice cars, I just prefer this one. I love a 6.00-16 / 7.50-16 tyre combo.
Looks to me as if the rear tires on the Kipp car changed size (smaller) between post #1 and #5. I'd guess the earlier pictures show 700-16, and the later ones 650s. The Spencer car's rears are clearly larger -- probably 750-16 -- and the fronts might be smaller. I'd still be interested in learning what lowering methods were used on the Kipp. Anyone know?
Mr.Miller,I'm interested in that too and thanks to the internet I already have the answer...amazing.Bob Goldsmith from the So-Cal Speedshop told me they used a reversed eye main leaf and de-arched the spring a little. It is not as low as it looks. The only mod to the frame was to notch the bottom side of the front horns for a little "insurance" in case it bottomed out.Tires are 6.00-16 front and 7.50-16 in the rear. Edit:I guessed the rear tires of the Spencer car as "definitely" bigger in my previous reply...so actually the front tires are smaller to get that rake...doh !
Talk about nailing it. That '32 is perfection in motion. That's the kind of car you spend all day looking at it and after you leave, you STILL think you missed something. Attention to detail personified. Thanks for posting it. Makes me glad I'm going black on my T.
