Just a heads up--I have used NAPA # 7885 top hoses on many 40's with a small block and walker radiator-fit well and look right. Called for one last week. Nearest was in South Carolina-had to have it shipped-there was only 13 in their whole system! Used to walk in a buy one=gonna order another for a spare. FYI bottom hose is #8220
I can see why, it's for Ford/Merc V6 cars from '79-'82ish. If you go here you can download the Gates Molded Coolant Hose Identification Guide with dimensions in it......for the future when the hose is gone. https://www.gates.com/ymm/search/part/details?part-number=21179
depends on the intake-on the ones mentioned they were aftermarket intakes with a water neck that comes forward at a 45 degree angle. Current 40 in progress has a factory 365HP intake and water neck is 1n different position-found a hose at NAPA that worked fine-went with a bent coat hanger-lower is most always a 8220
Thank you-by the way the 40 std is near completion-to uph next week-thx for your ***istance!! Can post some pics of hose setups if need be-two here with different setups
I use a welding rod bent to the shape and length I need for the hose and go to the auto parts and check which molded hose fits from there stock. That way I can get a spare also.
Is this hose for the 65 L79 intake or the 66 as the water neck orientation is different. Here is what I did with the Edelbrock intake on my 350, it uses the oem cast thermostat housing, this is two handmade aluminum plates TIG welded on the inside.
Nice Denny- I have a few of those water necks as well. As i recall the bottom 8220 hose is for a 57 Chevy V8-but don't recall for sure, Here is the 7885 hose on a 40 with a small block ac and a walker radiator. Wifes' 55 has a 66 L79 intake but center inlet on tank top
as said above 8220 is the bottom hose for a 57 Chevy V8 as I recall-fit well on an axle car with a small block and clears the Ybrace as well-always use them on 40's with a small block
