I bought an old Holley water injection unit to go on my blown bucket to prevent detonation. I really do not want to inject water into this motor, I know people swear by this, but I have my doubts. My question is, can I inject methanol into the motor and do the same thing? If this answer is yes, how flammable is methanol? The tank will be mounted on the firewall of an open engine bay. I do not want to have a problem with someone smoking and sticking their head down around the tank with a lit cigarette. Thirdly, will methanol and water mix? I have though about running a 50/50 mix of it and water. I would feel more comfortable with this instead of straight water. Thanks in advance for your replies, Robert
water and methanol will mix-thats how you get windshield washer fluid that dont freeze. methanol will all so absorb any moisture in the air that it is exposed to my.02
That is why I would feel more comfortable with a 50/50 mix with methanol and water, I would hope it would be less flammable this way.
i had a turbod civic, i know, OT... but it was runiing up to 15lbs boost with stock ecu, stock injectors, and i had a vacuum activated methanol injector, after 5lbs boost it would shoot a small stream of methanol... never bothered to mix with water, it burns cold alread y, and remember its like 160 octane... works NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE and its cheap, like $12 for 5 gallons
This is the reason I'm looking at this. About 8lbs is all I can put on the thing without detonation and I have run 15lbs on it. I guess I'll try the straight methanol and see what happens. I have learned that gas is more explosive than the methanol, so the external container of methanol does not bother me as much as it did at first.
