Hey guys. I just picked up this 56 straight axle car out of Colorado. I was told that the car was raced in Colorado in the 70's and probably late 60's. I'm wondering if anyone recognizes it, remembers it, or has any info or photos of it? I think the axle is Econoline, but I need some help identifying the steering box. I'm trying to determining if this front end setup is going to handle good enough to keep it on the road. Also what tire sizes are you tri five g***er guys running without cutting the rear fenders? Any help would be awesome!

it does look like an Econoline axle, and a 60s-70s Mopar car steering gear, and really scary geometry on the drag link and pitman arm!

Yeah that's what I'm thinking! Im want to leave the axle under this thing but I want to be able to drive it. I'm not gonna put my family in it without reworking the steering! What steering boxes are guys running on these straight axle setups?

Judging from the dr. Side pic., I'd suggest switching the front springs 180° to get the frt. Wheels centered... Which will give you a couple C' hair's more drag link... Kool car!

Had a 41 international kB, couldn't figure out for a minute why it steered more one way than other...... Then I looked at a picture I had taken when the clip was Still on, sure enough, Previous owner installed backwards, measured the center bolt, Boom, Daddy's Home!

there are several options for steering. Stock box with cross steer, although it gets close to (or into) the oil pan. Guys who don't care about period correct often use a Vega box mounted ahead of the axle, with cross steer in front. Or use a 50s truck box, but that takes some cleverness.

I think I am going to try and run the stock steering box. I like the idea of the length of the cross steer drag link.
