. Decided to get serious about buying a (5 or 3 window)1932 Coupe. Complete running car or maybe a project? I am in Canada so would like to keep the purchase north of the border to make things easier. I've been playing with Model A s for years so I have an understanding of the level of condition of an 80 plus year old car. Yes I want Henry steel and no chop, ( don't laugh I know they are hard to find) I am also drawn to original features and patina is good, even old hot rod patina. I have found a survivor Model B with good paint (beautiful car) but I think I want a v8 (flathead or even 283 or 327). SBC might make a better driver. I don't want a trailer queen, I want more of a messy car if you know what I mean. There is a young kid on you tube with a 5 window coupe, there is some history with the car, paint is rough, runs nice (I love it) but he is a bit too far away for me. So anyway my questions. 1. Am I correct with a price range 35,000-55000 USF ? 2. Any specific details to look for re special models or other cautions? 3. know of any, or where to look? (I think it will happen word of mouth, myself) I have found another 32 5 window with magazine history that I'm considering
With prices coming down I think you can definitely purchase a very nice car for the kind of money you are talking about. However, I feel your desire to find a car that isn’t in the States will limit your selection. Does that stipulation have something to do with import taxes, or vehicle inspection h***les?
Thanks for the reply. I have brought cars north from USA before, but you kinda said it just a bit more h***le and yes inspections. I think you are right I may be too limited in selection by sticking to Canada . Perhaps maybe Washington (that's close) Anything you can think of to look for to make sure it's a real Henry car or body?
If the one on you tube is the right car, I wouldn't hesitate to jump on a plane and check it out. "32"s don't show up locally to often and you will be waiting a long time if you limit yourself on traveling. Of course I would have an in depth conversation with the seller on the condition. I went 2000 miles for mine, no regretes.
If you find one you might post on HAMB to see if you can find someone local to take a "quick look". If it p***es the "quick look" test than fly out and see it yourself. My other hobby is photography where the goal is to make everything look good in a photo. It is amazing what a good photographer can accomplish, and this doesn't even allow for photoshop. Have you looked at this one? HRP https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1932-ford-5-window-coupe-for-sale.1110788/
There's been one on here by Standard32, a really nice looking survivor. By his current ad I think he's a bit fed up with all the Bag Tuggers that seem to haunt this site. He's in Louisiana, but if I was looking for a really nice survivor with the right patina that's ready to go I'd try contacting him.
He has pulled the ad but you can send him a conversation, look at his video, you want a car with history, a survivor this could be it. HRP https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...e-a-survivor-hot-rod-from-california.1119111/
be willing to travel and look at what you a buying and the paperwork that is going along with it.....Do dilligence..
Bangers can be dressed up so they don't look too bad. Still not as smooth running as a V8. Unfortunately this one is not mine. Charlie Stephens
Thanks for the reply, yes all true, however Louisiana shipping is about 4000.00 Canadian funds and a 45000.00 us car is about 58000.00 Canadian. So it's creeping up a bit. But I won't rule it out. I've found about 6 Canadian cars that have come out of the woodwork. But not the right one yet Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
They are cool, I'm still thinking an old 283 would be more reliable Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm not suggesting this car but why not spend the money on a plane ticket and look at the car, if it's what you want drive it home if not all you are out is a plan ticket and save the huge shipping fees. HRP
