Just another thought. It sounds like what you have is from a "Murray" town sedan which I've read from some here are getting pretty rare. You might try selling what you have to a restorer and then look for something more suited to what you want to do.

  2. True. Generally speaking, a Murray sells for a third more than a Briggs.

  3. Thanks, I built it exactly like I wanted it. Like I've said before, I cut the sheetmetal to the look I wanted, built the cab, and then built the doors(suicide) to fit the holes. Mack-Truck airhorns, air tank under backend. AC,(I like a little comfort) with condenser concealed under the bed in front of the gas tank, cold comes from under the seat. 2" top-chop. 2" channel. 250 Chevy motor. Carburetor-twice, Rochester Potbellys on Offy manifold. Spruced it up inside with wood instrument panel and garnish moldings. Vintage, (pre-mex,pre-china) Stewart gauges. Adapted the original pedals(for the stock look) to boosted juice brakes and clutch. 3-speed Saginaw, rear axle is 82 Mazda B2000(6-lug, it's short/sideways, fits good on original springs by modifying the front hangar brackets a bit narrower. I made the wood-spokes with a hefty look/originals were spindly, didn't like. A 'sleeper', gets off the light quick enough for me, surprises a lot of people. I love the 'truck' and won't change anything, except I'm thinking of getting a 292 bare block and build a tire-burner over the next few years, alteady have enough cooling capacity, a Torino radiator turned sideways.

I would still like to see more pics of this extended cab truck if anyone has them. I would REALLY like to see someone's build pics of a "Fordor shortened" project! If I did this with my Murray Fordor (and I still may) I would have to take out the 27" length first, narrow the rear section about 3" to line up the lines of the quarters and front doors, THEN I would have to chop about an additional inch out of the rear window post/rear corners to get the roof lined up. Lots of work, but not TOO difficult. You guys are starting to give me the bug again! You suck! It's hard walking out in the garage every morning and seeing something that needs to be violated!

Thats it. I couldn't remember the name of it. Haven't seen any updates on it for awhile. I haven't seen Kustombuilder post for awhile either.Am I missing something?

  7. What I did on my chevy, (similar to the Murray configuration); I split the back dead down the middle, overlapped it and used clecos to hold, slaved it in place, then adjusted until it fit. welding was last, after door holes were etched in stone, etc....... I didn't shorten the rear side windows, but if doing it again I would shorten them about an inch or so..........[quote........narrow the rear section about 3" to line up the lines of the quar.........[/quote]

Yep, its a Murray body,...town dean for sure. Are they really worth selling? Hell, I'd be happier with a five window, sedan or truck cab myself. Thanks for the info,...I may look into selling her!! Thanks!

Pretty lousy pic, but it something. It looks like it's been built from a Murray.

Yup! Late murray front and looks like an ealier tudor or fordor rear panel. Maybe even from a truck. The rear panels have a larger rear window than the late 31 Murray. That think looks neat!

Getting started with my Murray Fordor conversion. Here's the details if you're interested and haven't seen this yet:

No real progress other than the planning is still moving along. The body shortening is going to be the first thing to be done. Keep an eye out for updates.

  20. Scootermcrad---I clicked on the link you provided, but there are no pictures. Either you never had pictures there, or they have been deleted because its an older post and the administrator wanted to save band width by deleting them. How about posting pictures in this thread?---We are interested to see what you are doing.---Brian

The thread is only a week old and the pics showed up fine when I clicked the link, but I'll post a couple of them.

    What I'm starting with:
Some concept sketches.... WARNING: NOT AN ARTIST! JUST LIKE TO DRAW WHEN I THINK ABOUT CARS!
    A little better elevation...
And some frame thoughts. This one has changed quite a bit, but have settled on anything yet. The body will be shorter than what's in this CAD sketch:

Check out the link to the my post about the build for the ideas I'm kicking around. Comment or reply over there so we can keep this on general pics rather than just what I'm doing. I don't want this to become a thread Hijack. :)

    Scooter!!
what are you looking to Z the frame in front and rear? I'm asking because I think I'll be Z'ing my model A frame 10-12 in the rear and 4-5 in the front, though I still have to work out the bugs.

Hey if anyone knows a good Z'ing formula for a model A frame so that it wll sit six inches off the ground when all is said and done,....let me know!! I need the help and I really don't want to start into it and waste time scratching my head while i could be welding or something!!! thanks!

    Hey man!
Yes, Z-d in rear about 10 to 12 (not sure how much yet) and the final Z for the front will depend solely on the spring and axle combo I go with. No formula or rocket science, you just have to figure out where the centerline of the wheel is going to be based on your wheel/tire, and where your frame needs to be for the spring mount to keep the frame at 6-inch ride height.

Now, maybe someone can give us a measurement from the ground to the top of their front spring in full compression (with all the weight on it) and what wheel/tire combo they're running. From there you can figure out everything else based on the spring and axle.

    Did I lose you?

nope, didn't loose me,..I'm picking up what yer layin down!!

I'm going to go witha "bleed sweep" in the front so it will be a little different, I know there is a truck or sedan on the Cheaters website taht has a bleed sweep it would be great if there were some guys from the Cheaters on here that could give some input on that, as they've already done it that way, etc.!!

its when you pie hole cut the frame just before the cowl/firewall and tild the front end up on an angle. This way you can retain the bull horns of the frame yet stil un a sort of suicide front end! some don't care for it, but the weird thing is, I had thought about the possibility of cutting the frame and doing that before I ever knew people had alrady started doing so!!??
