Is there such a beast? If not, how does a chrome smoothie wheel look without a hubcap and with a bullet center/lugs?
there used to be 6 lug chrome reverse wheels, at least according to my old 1971 JC whitney catalog. They cost $15.88 each. Smoothies would look like smoothies, not gennie old chrome reverse. Not that most guys would notice. You could always take some wheels apart and reverse them and get them chromed....but that might be a bit too traditional?
I can't find a 6 lug reverse wheel anywhere. I'm wanting to do a front disc brake conversion on my '64 C-10, and I'd like to use stock 6-lug discs from the later trucks. I don't really want to do a 5-lug conversion, front & rear, just because there aren't any decent looking wheels in a 6-lug. I've got some OE 6-lug wheels. I might reverse them and have them chromed if I can't find a set soon.
I have some 6 lug wheels off a 31 chevy we just tore down, Or I think Wheel Vintques sells reversed for ya. There are chrome smoothies and then they can sell the chrome smoothie reversed. I think the cheap smoothies are not avalible reversed from the big wheel manufactures any more. Only guys like wheel vintiques. Rodger
Check the original R & C dream truck ... These were made in 14" as well, for Datsun & Mazda pickups. The '60s and '70s wheels use the stock hubcap 3 lump pattern. In our part of the country, they rusted & pitted during the winter - lots of them have been blasted & painted ...
Anyone have a source? Unless I can find some chrome reverse 6-lugs I'm either doing a complete 5-lug conversion, or buying chrome smoothies, which I'd rather not do.
I would be interested in seeing those wheels.... What size and syile are they.... I am looking for something cool for a 33 chevy truck...
I had these Wheel Vintques 6 lug on my 68. like $80 ea. for the 15x10 in the rear and $78 ea. for 15x8 in the front
IF YA WANT THE REAL DEAL O.E. CHROME REVERSE CONTACT ""STOCKTON WHEELS"" IN STOCKTON CALIFORNIA. THEY BUILT A REAL DEAL SET OF '50 MERC WHEELS FOR MY HOT ROD.. VERY NICE QUALITY
My Dad bought a '70 Chevy pkup in 1970 that someone had customized and it had chrome reverse 15" 6-hole wheels on it with baby moons. I actually have one left that I use for hose storage in shop. If you have acces to the right mach. you can build your own or as DE Soto says, contact Stockton. In the "old days" with rivited wheels alot of rodders made their own wheels. Some of the wheels when reversed had a "slanted" inside and this was the kool side to show, not the stepped side. With a lathe ahd a good welder you can make reversed and widened wheels. The wheel folks chrome the parts before ***embly for easier polishing. I was readin an older thread and in the '50-'60's painted, chrome and Moon disc were all that were avalible around Ft. Worth. Mid '60's "Morbec Mags" were made and sold locally but sometimes the rivets would break/strip/loosen and they were replaced with Cragers etc. Jim
Jeremy..the "slanted" wheels Old hippie refers to are Buick 15" rims...they fit early Ford centers and may fit your GM's, too
Thanks krooser for info on wheels. I took a Ford wheel and ground/drilled rivets out and did same with (Buick?) wheel and the holes lined up and made a nice looking reversed wheel. I was only about 14 yrs. old at the time and didn't have a way to weld or rivet together, but did look good. Jim
