EDIT: The Run has been POSTPONED, NOT cancelled. The Road Demons are putting on a "Reliability Run/Car Show". It's more of a "drive your car around through the country and have fun with your buddies" than a car show, but when you get that many cool cars together, it's gonna be a car show ! The Run will be held Saturday, July 15th. I know, it's right in the dead of summer, but that's what we had to work with. The Run will start at around noon (12pm) in Van Alstyne, TX (easy to find for you Dallas/Ft Worth guys--about an hour north of DFW) right off Highway 75. We have a predetermined route set up, and will have maps for the people attending, just in case something happens (car problems, fuel/bathroom stops, someone gets separated from the rest of the pack, etc). We drove this route earlier this afternoon in my buddy's '62 Chevy with 5 of us packed in, and let me tell you, this is going to be one HELLUVA drive ! The country is so beautiful, the roads are in very good condition, and there are some places you could really "open up the throttle" on your vehicle. It will end at a place on Lake Texoma, aptly named "Island View". This is where the "Car Show" part of it comes into play. There will be jet ski races going on still, more than likely, when we show up, but they should be over by about 3pm, so we will have the place to ourselves the rest of the day after that. There is a vendor that will have food there, or I suppose you could stop on the way in and get your own food, if you so selected. At or around 3pm, the band will play an hour set. We're still working on the fine details with the band. The price for all this fun, just a mere $10 per person. There will be beach area to play in, lounge in, jump in the water and splash around, whatever you want to do. This is open to ANY YEAR model/make of car. There will be "Event t-shirts", which will probably be in the $10 range, and you will not be dissapointed. I was assigned the task of the t-shirt art, and what I have so far looks pretty damn good, if I must say so myself ! I can assure you, this is going to be a shitload of fun ! Some of you Dallas/Ft Worth area guys that have never been to my dad's shop could come up a little early and check out the "facilities", if you were interested in that. There are definitely some interesting things to look at in the shop ! I am SURE I'm missing some things, so just ask questions, and I'll try to answer them as easily and quickly as possible. I know this is a fairly short notice, it's only 2 months away, but we would really like to see as many of you as possible come up and cruise the backroads with us. I can honestly tell you that this will be a SHIT LOAD of fun ! So whaddya say ?! -Aaron
Great ! It'll be good to rumble through the country with you guys ! Danny, I can't freakin' WAIT for this thing to go down ! -Aaron
It's going to be fun as hell, I can feel it in my bones !! I'm tired of going to boring ass car shows (went to one today- ) where everyone just sits around and talks about the same ol' shit they always talk about. That's why we put this thing together, because there isn't really anything along the lines of a reliability run around here, that I know of. I have no doubt that everyone who attends will have a blast. -Aaron
Great, thanks for the support Jamie. When it gets closer to "Go Time", we may need to get a hold of you if we need any last-minute help. Oh, almost forgot to mention it, but the run from start to finish will be 54.7 miles, and roughly take about 1 hour, 10 minutes. I figure it will probably take us a little longer if we get a long line of cars, but we're not trying to set any land speed records here, we're just out for a nice cruise through the country, and end up hanging out at the lake. If anyone has any questions that I haven't touched on yet, please ask away. I get a little scatter-brained from time to time trying to remember all the little detail stuff. Now, I know it being in the middle of July, it will be hotter than hell, but that was what we had to work with to be able to use the spot that we will end up at. Therefore, bring some fluids (water, etc) to keep cool, and make sure the ride is up to par in the cooling department. We're working on getting some fliers made, with a map of the route on the back, and it will also have a couple of "breakdown" cell phone numbers on there, in case anyone has any problems. My dad has a truck and trailer with a 10,000 lb winch....it WILL pull any car on the trailer, even if the wheels fall off ! My dad also has a shop in downtown Sherman that can pretty much fix any problem you may have. -Aaron
i'm in. gotta schedule a sick day for this. ha, screw em cant argue with having a 24 hour virus can ya.
A driving event? I'm so in! I was just talking with another rodder last week about wanting to put together a driving event, but was having a hard time coming up with ideas... this sounds awesome!
Ok guys, due to some problems that have arose, we are going to postpone this run. NOT CANCEL, but POSTPONE ! It will be, more than likely in the end of September. It will be cooler in September as well. -Aaron
Post again when you've got a date, maybe by then I'll have a choice of cars to drive (as opposed to just my 62 C10)
Great, I'm glad we've got some interest, and I'm actually kinda glad that we decided to move it back. That way we can get more details finalized and let you guys know, so that we don't have anything "up in the air". We're shooting for the end of September (30th possibly), and the place we're going to be ending up at will be different, and I think it will be a better place anyway. We'll have more room than the place we were originally going to have it. -Aaron
Hell yeah man ! One of our guys will probably be riding his bike as well. Here's a pic of the stiping I did on his tank. rocknrods, do you know what the exact date for the Goodguys event is ? We can't have it the weekend of the 16th, that's the Kustom Kings "Watson' Drive-In" show. If the Goodguys show is the 30th, we may have to have it the weekend of the 23rd. We'll get it figured out, and let you guys know. Thanks for the interest, this is gonna be a fuckin' BLAST ! -Aaron
YO, Hardluck, Good Guys is Sept 30- Oct 1. The 23rd would be great for ME, as we all know the world revolves around ME. (wish, wish)
Haha ! Yeah, it's lookin' like the weekend of the 23rd is probably going to be working out the best for us (maybe it'll ONLY be in the 90's !). I'll talk to the guys in the club, and try to get some shit finalized this time. -Aaron
