Been collecting hubcaps for the 55 Ford mild custom build. The other day I saw a 55 with chrome reverses and skinny whites. What era did the skinny whites hit and would that look right on a mild custom build from say 1959?

Post a photo of the car Root, I wouldn't be surprised if Moose doesn't photoshop the photo with the combinations that will knock your socks off. HRP

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three choices you have listed. It will come down to personal preference.
In my opinion (worthless), the wide-whites and caps lean toward an "earlier" look. Wide-whites on chrome wheels also look good and then the skinny whites came out and also look good on chrome wheels.
Keep in mind that there were only a few years difference in these looks and lots of "overlap" for lack of a better word...
I talked to Rocky about his Chevy recently and the "Wichita look". He said back in the day (around Wichita) some guys ran wide-whites on chrome wheels and some guys ran skinny-whites on them.
I don't think there is a wrong answer. Even if you were to choose a specific year (like 1959) I think you can find examples of each.

Keep in mind, the car will be lowered and the yo-yo is gone off the back.

I believe that skinny whites were first around in 60-61 on Corvairs.

If you are referring to the Continental Style spare tire as the yo-yo, ..well to each his own, and bottom line it's your car.. but I would not remove it. You have a damn fine looking ride as is! Skinny Whites, Wide Whites, Dog Dish or full wheel covers all will do the car well.

I thought the the narrow whites didn't appear until about '61 (as someone has already posted). Are you certain that photo is from '59? Might be the very first car on the road to have 'em, I suppose ...?!?! I guess someone had to be the first, huh?

Skinny white's scream '62 to me. That said, I'm a '71, so I know nothing of the subject in a 'I was there' sense. My vote is chromies n wide whites, although I personally don't care for spider caps. That said, it could sit in my driveway wearing the Olds covers anytime too.

I vote Moose #3, only '56 Olds Starfires, reverse the tilt, & leave it white … less is more.

I love the Olds caps but remember the real Olds Fiesta caps wont fit on the shallower ford wheels.

It all depends on your build style. I have never liked chrome reversed wheels. To me it looks like the center caps fell off or got stolen. Scan0356.jpg Scan0228.jpg
