  1. Please help!!
hello I know their is many posts about the 250 but my situation is weird...
So I was having an issue with timing and backfires out monojet so I pulled distributor cap and rotor was 1 revolution off so I restabed and made sure it was pointing the 1 plug at tdc plus the crank timing mark was at 0. After that still no fire I had fuel, primer was squirting fine and so I got pissed and went and bought spark plugs and intake manifold gasket set plus carburetor gasket.
Then I got fire for 5 seconds it sounded beautiful lol but after that I had no fire. Intake manifold was filled with gas ( flooded ) so I ****ed it out with pump and waited till today and it fired this time for 10 seconds... idk it takes at least 30 min to get fire and I haft to clean Fouled new plugs every time... I’m just dumbfounded I got vacuum advance disconnected and plugged any in-liners please help!!! Sorry for the Long post!

Best thing I did for my 250 was throw the stock carb as far as I could. I'm running the 2 barrel Webber from Tom Langdon.

Sounds like way too much gas. Is the needle/seat/float situation as it should be? are you running a fuel pump that hs too much pressure?

was it running before you did this?

Did you make sure #1 was in the firing position, or was #6 firing? The crankshaft turns two revolutions for every revolution of the distributor rotor.

  6. The monojet has never been taken apart so as fast as the float goes idk but no electrical pump just the mechanical one on the side of engine.

  7. Yes I had the valve cover off watching the rockers-pushrods once I was their I used a straw in the #1 plug hole.

  8. And sorry it was running as the past owner said he even came over dumbfounded by this as I was. He said it was sitting for 3 1/2 years.
The last owner gave it to me because I tore the iron duke out of my 91 square body s10. If I can figure this out I got a nice monster trans 700r4 to mate it lol.

The picture...it's on an engine stand?
It sounds screwy. Is that how you're running it, no coolant?
The 250 is a very basic, reliable motor. I had a '66 Nova with one, wish I still had it. Dad bought it from me, drove it for years.
As I remember it had a BC Rochester which I did have to rebuild occasionally. The stock points distributor was fine.
Me, I'd want to use stock ignition. If carb is good, float level correct, timing correct, good spark, it should run fine.
I would check compression, best would be if you have a leak down tester.
With good compression, valves (cam/lifters) good, good spark/timing, carb ok, no vacuum leaks...it will run fine.

  11. Engine stand runs are very screwed your right but no I have a horrible homemade floor/wood stand and I don’t want to run coolant till it fires and runs for 1 minute or so. It came with the hei on it and it looks to be alright sense I got it to fire twice but not a reliable run it just dies and floods again and again. I will do a leak down test in the morning and let you and the rest know my results. Thank you.

Sounds like the carb is jacked

  13. After the first time I flooded the intake the crank got a little hard to turn so I put a little squirt of atf in each cylinder and it helped again. After that it fired right up. as the second time it started as in the post. But then fouled the plugs black again so I just gave up and signed up for this wonderful site! Thank you all I love your Opinions.

  14. Thank you. Do you think it’s the float? Or something else internal?

  15. It ain't rocket science guy's, if it's flooding the intake with gas then it has to be the carburetor! My guess is the needle valve is sticking open. How are you supplying it with fuel?

  16. Rigged Hanging lawnmower gas can to the mechanical fuel pump.
It only floods when cranking not sitting
I’m dumbfounded by this issue I will buy a new carb off amazon or a rebuild kit lol.
    Thank you.

  17. Well, I've done similar arraignments and they worked out ok so I'm still leaning to a stuck needle valve.

  18. Hopefully the float needle seat is not f..... but I will tear it apart and check I think oreillys can order the gasket set with all new internals.
    You the man bro!

  19. No problem. I love those little 250 inlines, had one in a '63 Chevy short bed. 32/36 Webber, HEI, dual exhaust and a T5 transmission, little ****er ran great!

Any carb that sets for 3 1/2 years is jacked! By a kit and rebuild it, clean the plugs and fire it up.

You should never have to **** fuel out of the intake, ever...........

Grumpy is right. Carb needle/seat/float flooding, not shutting fuel off like it should.
If after carb clean, blowing out p***ages, inspection, etc.
    1) be sure float is ok, try floating it in container of water
    2) be sure drop and level set correctly, instructions will be in kit.
    3) after re***embling I always blow through fuel inlet, tip carb around until upside down making sure it shuts off

We got a rebuilt one from Summit about a year ago. Carbs can have hairline cracks, warped, etc. The Summit one runs great.

  22. Where did you get the mounts? I’m in need of some instead of making them?

  23. Thank you I will do the cleaning and inspection plus float the float. that’s a smart way to make sure the needle works. Great advice man!

  25. Ummm, mounts for what?

  26. Engine mounts I see others here with different topics making them but I only have a Lincoln mig-flux they look as if they were bought or very well made/painted.
