1952-59 Ford HELP!!!!! Issues with clearance of headers on a 302 Swap

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Officer_Bimbeau, May 24, 2013.

  1. Dude that is beautiful. An extra $100 more than the 88400's is nothing in comparison to hours of fab work and parts for a power steering conversion. Have a beer or 6 on me

I used the Hedman Headers on GT40P heads. cylinders 5 and 6 had interference on the spark plug.
I could have used shorty plugs and shielded wires but chose to rework the tubes on these
cylinders instead. It wasn't really that hard, I bought a couple of 45 bends and changed the angle
to these cylinders. Ford racing has headers that work on the 40P heads. The motor will have to be
shimmed about a 1/2" to the p***enger side, or motor mounts that sit a little lower. If I had to do the swap again I would lower the motor. The angle at the transmission is in the 5 degree range with
the stock small block mounts, 3 degrees would be better

  3. Jeff, I can't thank you enough, my headers arrived last night and they basically just fell into place, plenty of room against the steering shaft. thanks a ton!! FullSizeRender.jpg

You might have already found what you were looking for, but I am running a booster on the firewall, a T5, and the 88400 headers. In my case, I used a hydraulic master (wilwood) and slave cylinder from a mid 80s Z car. I tucked the master in as close as I could to the booster, then offset the linkage from the pedal to the pushrod. Works great, and not terribly expensive.

For the guys on a budget I used a factory Ford engine mount and headers. I have a 55 customline that had a 6 in it. I used factory fox body engine mounts and they dropped right in the engine mount perches. I used fox body factory headers and modified the third tube to drop differently to clear the steering box. They sit about a half inch from the control arm and are cheap at the wrecking yards.

Bringing this back to the top as these headers are still available and relate to the GT40P heads used on late 5.0's.
