Hey guys, I need some help. I've got a newly rebuilt 383 in my car. It starts and idles just fine. The issue is this, when I put the car in gear it dies. There are no weird noises or anything. It just dies. Any suggestions?

Is there a piece of linkage shorting out a wire..

    Torque converter locked up?

  5. Vacuum leak?
    Over fueling?
    Under fueling?
    High rpm
    Low rpm
    Misfiring
    Advanced timing
    Retarted
    Mechanical issue
    Tune up
    Old engine coming to life
    New engine braking in
    Air conditioning
    Carburated
    Fuel injection
    Old gas
    Manual trans
    Auto trans
    Converter stall
    Some thing mechanical binding
    Valves adjusted right
    Base timing
What kind of distributor is in it
    Tuna sandwich?

Sorry my friend, need a bit more info before we fire up the cannon !!

My first guess would be tune up or vacuum leak but that’s not only a shot in the dark it’s a shot in the dark with an unloaded gun!

383 is that a stoker sbc or a big block Chrysler. What torque converter are you using and what transmisson. How big is your cam. Does it have a carb, fuel injection, or a blower.

If you give it a little gas, when putting into gear, does it still die?

Idle speed too low? I'd go along with the converter stall speed being too low though.

Fries or onion rings? It's one of few questions that haven't been asked.

Jack back tires off the ground. See if it still dies.
