  1. Back story is that sadly a close friend of mine p***ed away 1 1/2 years ago (RIP Larry Bowen). L.B. had owned his 1940 Ford Woodie hot rod for over 50 years and it was considered his "most prized" possession. The car was stored in his barn-garage and had not seen daylight since his p***ing. Local car guys would often ponder the fate of the infamous Woodie and what his heirs would eventually do with the car. Those questions were answered yesterday when I received a call from the Administrator of his estate telling me that they found a paper detailing what Larry's last wishes were and that the Woodie was to be given to me!!!! The call left me absolutely speechless and wondering what I had done during our 40+ year friendship that made Larry want to choose me to be the next custodian of this most prized item. My plans are to gather a few of our mutual friends and extract the car and ***ociated spare parts this weekend and relocate them to a storage facility until I can make space in my garage. I'm certain that the day will involve reliving many stories of L.B. and his escapades with the car. Afterward, we plan to go to dinner and raise a gl*** to our departed friend. After all, it's really the people and friendships that define this hobby. Otherwise it's just a bunch of old tin and rusty junk.

My plan is to get the car running again and proudly display it to honor my friend. There were several events that he wanted to attend in the later years but his health problems prevented him from doing so. Hopefully, the Woodie will be at those events in 2019 with Larry riding along in spirit.

It sounds like Mr Bowen made a sound decision and the car is in good hands. Congrats.

My condolences on the p***ing of your friend Larry. You now have probably the most desired Ford "Woodie", the 1940. I hope you are planning on joining the National Woodie Club, P.O. Box 6134, Lincoln, NE, 68506. The dues are $35 per year and you also will receive the "Woodie Times" magazine every month. Welcome to the world of "Woodies", please post pictures when you can.

I got a ****** stuck in my throat and I've had a stiff neck for hours.
It is hard for me to be serious unless I have pictures to amuse me.

    Woodies are important!!
Both men and woman should have them.

Wood is good...but inheritances are better.
My good old friend **** Powell was a famed flat bottom boat racer, who left a paper in his top desk drawer saying that I, 'Mike the Knife'...would be willed his 354 Chrysler Hemi, upon his demise.
Wife Joey and self made the F100 trip 120 miles each way, brought the giant mill home. It's in my garage, on a heavy curved engine stand, nearly ready...Nice, but I'd rather have Richard back...

Sounds like you had a friend for life...and then some. I've never asked another man for pictures of his woodie, but hey I won't tell if you don't. I'd love to see the car, I'm glad to hear something positive can come out of a friends p***ing.

Great acknowledgement by your friend recognizing both of your shared car hobby p***ions.
Realizing this, I'm sure is how he determined you'd be the obvious choice/next caretaker.
    Huge compliment.
Sure would like to see pictures of it.

Think of the joy your friend Larry must have been feeling when he completed the do***ent willing the Woody to you. I'm sure he relived all of the happy times you had together. You were obviously very important to him.

I never thought I'd ask, but can you post pics of your woodie? You're lucky, '40 Woodies are about as neat as they get. Congratulations, you must be a good guy, or at least a good enough mechanic to keep that woodie up...and running!

It's difficult to loose a close friend but you retain the great memory's and there is not a doubt in my mind he thought the world of you as he decided he wanted you to be the caretaker of his "Prized possession" before he p***ed away.

What really stands out is he wanted you to have the woodie and his gifting you the car, that friendship ran deep, you were indeed his brother.

I'm looking forward the seeing you and his friends removing the car from storage and the toast to a hot rodder that is no longer around to share the fun. HRP

Sorry about your friend and happy that you have inherited my favorite Woodie. The 1940 is a collector's/Hot Rodder's first choice when seeking a Woodie. Looking forward to your photos of this Woodie. rb7 (1).jpg
