I wonder if anyone has ever seen a flattie installed in something newer like an S-10 or another RWD car/truck? I've seen 'em on bikes (Honest Charlie's) but how about something else?
There is a guy in PA who put one into a Falcon Ranchero. Personally, I think it's a DUMB IDEA. It violates the laws of nature. I've got nothing against flatheads -- I'm building one for my '32 truck -- but for gawd's sake, don't put it in anything newer than '53.
Used to be a guy at who ran a flathead powered Dart, at Bonneville. Haven't heard about him in awhile. But I imagine he's still around. Seems a little backwards, but I guess that's why I'm not doin' it.
Uh, yeah, didn't anyone tell you? I'm building up a V8-60 to drop in my '93 Escort with the '48 Merc axles and trans. It's flat black with lots of pinstriping and spray-painted whitewalls on the 13" steelies. I'm the hepest kat at CMU, daddy-o.
I'd do it just to piss everyone off. On my list of things to build some day is a Karmann Ghia with a flathead. Can you imagine the bedlam that would ensue if you took a flathead powered Trans Am to the Trans Am nationals? It's be great
When I was 16, I pissed my dad off and got kicked out of the garage...was also told to sell all my projects cluttering up his place. One of my treasures was my freshly rebuilt 53 Merc motor [with carter wcfb, cam, Johnson adjustables and headers]but it hadda go too. I sold it to this drunk who put it in a 62 falcon ranchero [in central Oregon..1964]....ran great but sat the little ford's front end really low. He and his buddy were deer hunting on jeep roads, drunk, when they caught a sharp rock with the oil pan but didn't notice it...drove the thing until it siezed.

Proves Bonneville is the place for innovation.
If you have a car that didn't come with a flathead or a banger the only way your sparkplugs should be on top of the chambers is if the motor has some big ole valve covers too!
There was a man just outside of Charlotte NC who put a 53 Mercury into a Pinto. He bought the Pinto new, then when it was about a year old the motor died. It had the little 1600 push rod motor....not the much better 2000cc job. FOMOCO dealer would not help him so he put the Flatty in. I worked with him. He was a weird dude. He was about 50, single, lived in a old 1 room shack without indoor plumbing. This was in 1972 or so. He had a well but no running water. The old bucket and a rope deal. It must have worked for him....I saw him at Charlotte AutoFair about 4 - 5 years ago. He had to be almost 80. Still had the Pinto...... .
I always thought it would be tits to put one in a Jeep. Im sure its been done but Ive never seen one. A flatfender or a CJ5 would be bitchin.
On the movie Hollywood Knights, wernt they talking about putting a flathead in a Jeep.."back in the war"? I`ll have to dig it out and watch it again, it`s been a couple years.
