Caught me there, huh Dick?! Well, like I said, I am sympathetic to the import thing, but only as far as new(er) cars/trucks. I understand their rationale, I just don't always follow their ways. ("Do as I say, not as I do")

Seems like that whole import/domestic thing is mostly Asian vs the rest of the world, too.

It also seems like the whole US of A needs to take a Midol and two weeks vacation, everyone is just getting too cranky........ something in the water??

  2. That's the best answer in this thread. Tingler, you're such a charactor, and I mean that in a GOOD way.

...gets my vote as the number 1 best answer.

You ran up against the guy with the A pickup because he's probably that crotchety guy that everybody else in the shop sends on errands to get rid of him for a while:
"Hey Fred, do me a favor and gas up that A pickup as soon as you're done sweeping the bays".

    "Gassed it up yesterday".

"So go for a ride, fortheluvvagod!"

Car people can be weird..... (dramatic pause)
Maybe the guy just had a fight with his old lady, his boss, or his kid that only likes import trucks, doesn't put his tools away, and never cuts the grass.:D
I DO agree with the sentiment that it takes no effort to just say "thanks" and one should expect some attention when driving an old car.

  5. Some people are just dicks. Car or no car. Nice attitude. Someone must have pissed in his cornflakes that morning. Pat.

Seymour, sometimes your replies just confuse me.

I would think for someone who knows a lot about old cars, you'd see the value in talking to someone else who is interested in them. Your regularity on the HAMB proves you believe in that if you don't spell it out.

Personally, I prefer to be nice even when it's not entirely necessary...

...up to a point, of course, and then all hell breaks loose. :D

Usually when someone compliments me, or once in a while one of my rides, I have enough courtesy to say "Thanks". My mom taught me that 50 years ago. It's only one word, doesn't start a shitstorm, and allows you to leave if you choose... even easier than being a prick. Ya shoulda waited for the guy till he came back and asked him if he'd like to trade even up!

Couple of things it took me a looooong time to learn - It doesn't cost anything to be friendly and say "Yes, sir" and only a fucking idiot would intentionally piss somebody off for no reason at all.

I live for that stuff. I love the comments and I rarely get hassled for the "not being stock" thing. That guy was being a douche and you handled it very well. Who knows what his problem was.

  16. Hold on just a fucking minute here.

Are you suggesting because some guy didn't want to talk to you that it is
OK to beat him up and shoot at his car with your 44. Sounds to me like you
are the one with a problem, not him.

um, joke. If you read my post you'd note that I told him he had a nice truck and drove off, which I think is just about the most cordial thing anybody could have done. But you're right I guess it's not funny to joke about shooting cars... unless they're fuckin Japo nees, yall wit me?

I will refrain from all types of sarcasm in the future for your benefit Flt-blk.

Did a stranger "touch you down there" when you were young? You and "Dick" just seem afraid of the world.

here is my 2 cents. I talk to people that come up to me, cause like it was said before some people will tell you where you can find good stuff, even if you donot want you usually know someone that does. I even gotten some free stuff from people. One guy ask if I had time to wait while he ran home and got me a hood emblem that he said was sitting in his garage and he thought I might find a use for it. Not sure if it is worth much, but it is free and cool non the less. It is the lady holding a wheel with a red plastic wing like thing coming out the back.
ps your Toyota was most likely made here in the US and that guys other newer vehicle Dodge or Ford was most likely assembled in Mexico.

You hate when people feel the need to talk about their cars or yours? On the Hamb?
    Huh?
I don't give a shitwhat they're talking about, if someone compliments you, good manners dictate at least a polite acknowledgement.

I used to own an Aussie muscle car (XY GT) for a while as a daily. The amount of people that used to stop me and say "I used to have one of them" nearly drove me to tears, it just gives you the shits after a while.

Maybe this old bloke had evry second passer by telling him that they had one at home in the shed/used to own one etc etc....

Isn't it great when a guy can get on the HAMB and tell a story about another guy being a total dick, only to have other guys start being total dicks to one another within the same thread? If you don't like talking, especially about cars, why and hell are you on the HAMB? Also, I know I'm only talking to a few people, most guys on here are very helpful and willing to talk cars.
