I am looking for a Trunk lid for my '30 A Coupe. Can any body tell me the differance between a 28/29 vs a 30/31 lid? I am having trouble coming up with one for a 30/31 & if a earlier one would work maybe I would have a better chance of finding one. If it is just the latches & hinges that are different I could adapt as I dont have any of that stuff ether. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Add yourself to the 3,276 others that are looking for one. I was thinking about making one out of a another decklid. I believe they are now reproduced. Dont know the price.
really makes you wonder what happend to them all doesnt it? i just spent the last 2 weeks ressurecting one back from the dead, i searched for ever trying to find a better one but im gues im lucky i had the remains of one to fix. and i couldnt bring myself to spend $500.00 on a new one http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/ModelAParts/RumbleParts/3456 if you have the money this would probably be your best bet, probably wouldnt be too far off what your would end up spending for a genie on ebay.
I would like to know the differences as well, AND where all the decklids have gone. I was lucky enough to find one right here on the HAMB a couple years ago, and it needed very little work. They are still out there, but getting harder to find. My car was a farm vehicle for decades, it was used to haul stuff around the property so the decklid and panel below were taken off to make it easier.
If you do a search in the forums, most of this has been discussed before. Check out the following link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88549&highlight=decklid
During WW2 gas was rationed, you could get more gas for a truck than for a car. So everyone converted their cars to trucks, take off the decklid, build a wood box, you got a truck, happy motoring! My 30/31 lid came from TP, he found it being used as a gate on an old goat pen.
