Does anyone know what type of clip I need to install the side trim on my 56? The car never had any trim there when I bought it so I found some NOS trim and just need the clips.I tried a google search and on ebay and found all kinds of Ford clips but I have no idea what I am even looking for. 20180729_142550.jpg

Funny this should come up. I hooked my pocket on my customline spear and the rear quarter trim popped off! Obviously, the clips were worn out. Glad though, the trim is super straight.

Those can be difficult to straighten.

So about 12 years ago I bought some NOS side spears for my car. They were still in the plastic but after all those years in my attic the plastic is gone and all that remains it the tag and a smidge of plastic.

That catalog shows the part to be 29038 and that is what my tag look to originally have before someone wrote a 9 over the 8. I slid the spear into place and it fits like a glove on the side of the car. (EDIT: I found another thread about side trim and the Right - B6A 7029038-C Left - B6A 7029039-C)

I managed to pickup a couple of the large pieces on ebay that were freshly polished to replace my dented ones.

I ordered some 21066 Clips from Dennis Carpenter.

Problem is the clip falls right in the trim piece. The part that goes into the body is way to small as well. Is there another clip with the same number but different suffix maybe?

I used the clips with threaded studs on most of my 55. Much easier to install. Like 358566 in the diagram above.

I would suggest Restoration Specialties as well. They had everything I needed for my '55

DC sells the proper tool for installing those clips Ford used that style for several years.I do not think they would have used them if they fell off as some have suggested.years ago I made my on tool before the tool was available.

I took the qtr molding off to put on my new ones. Below is a picture of the clips in case anyone should ever need to know what they look like.

Ask for Jeff if you call them, great customer service. He sold me ALL the clips for my car for $88. And some were the last ones he had.

Nobody makes the windshield top clips for a '59 Ford. But I reverse engineered a set that I got on eBay and now I have a CAD drawing started. I'll bend some up in aluminum to see if they are close.

Well I managed to find some clips locally that matched the 1 broken clip left of my car.

I bought some rubber washers for sheet metal and used them with the serrated 10-24 nuts.

After a lot longer then expected I finally got done this afternoon.

I took my original clips to a fastenal store and they matched them in no time. The only clips they couldn't match was where the front hood trim extends around the grill.

That's good to know. My car has not had trim for idk how many decades and long before I ever owned it so I didn't have any clips to go from. The manual shows clips that pop in but non of the ones I bought were close to fitting the trim. I ended up getting mine from a body shop supplier.
