Is the 54 front cross member dimensions different then the 56? Looking at past posts and pictures the cross member in my 56 is no where near the same as a 54 diagram I found on here. Attached is the dimension I am looking for. My cross member is heavily rusted so I want to make sure the new one I make is the right dimensions.

Below is what I need. Mine is about 4 3/4".

Even Goodell has a separate posting for the 54. I have everything to build my own and I am going to make some changes to the radiator mount in the process so I don't want to buy something then modify it when I can make what I want for a few bucks.

  3. hmm, I thought 54-56 were the same, but I understand were you're coming from. Maybe one of the other guys can confirm that.

So did I so I was a little surprised yesterday when I took some measurements and the distance I am looking for is nowhere close to the 54 diagram.

About 4 years ago or more we had a member that was making them for other members for a lot less than Goodell's would you consider doing that ? He quit after he moved out of State.

Is there any chance that your crossmember got bent or twisted? Are the measurements the same on both sides?

Well due to the amount of rust I wouldn't be surprised is the one side was a bit higher but it is over 1 1/2" difference and there is no actual damage, just rust and it is not that bad

If I build one it will not be like the factory. I am trying to gain some room for a larger cross flow radiator and lower it a bit to get it out of sight.
