I had a great, great aunt Louie "Lue Armstrong McCray" that picked banjo and had played at some point in her life in Nashville. She had befriended the likes of Roy Clark, Grandpa Jones, Stringbean Akeman, and so on. (Google Louie Viola Armstrong McCray Banjo) She lived in the tiny community of Headwaters in rural western Va. I remember when I was a kid in the early 70's stopping in a visiting her with my family and she'd get out her banjo and play for us. I remember that the skin of her banjo was signed by many of the country music greats including those mentioned above plus many more. She really was my great, great aunt, even though everyone called her "aunt Lue".
We stopped in one afternoon and she said we had just missed "the boys" (those mentioned above) as they had just left. They apparently had been in the area hunting and had stopped in for a visit. I remember how disappointed I was because I was a big fan, we always watched HeeHaw. Thanks for a neat childhood memory. RIP Roy Clark.

I was able to see him live at a county fair years ago, fantastic self taught talent.

That photo of the Hee Haw Hemi is after the car was sold to my friend Wes in 1994. We had to remove Roy Clark from the doors when we went to pick up the car which was not brought up when the deal was made. When they sold the Super Picker they didn't remove Roy Clark from the doors and there was a court battle with the new owner to get Roy's name off the car. The J of J&M Aircraft is who maintained the car and may have owned it. He worked for Roy for years.
