Are you going to rivit the sides to the subframe or weld?

The current plan is 1/4 inch carriage bolts.

The bed is coming along nicely.

I had doubts that the original bedsides would look OK, I think they do.

That is a lot of hardware! Thanks for posting the pictures of the bed assembly.

I think the bed is coming along very well. The bed sides look good. Keep at it.

Does anyone know if these 1940 Ford pickup will bolt on the side of a 46’ pickup bed? How close are the dimensions does anyone know? I can’t seem to find a 42 - 46 left bedside fender!

The 38-41 beds are 46" wide, 42-47 beds are 49". The big side panels are the same. The differences are in the subframe crossmembers, the header panel and the tailgate. I could only find a later bed for my project, so it will be rebuilt to earlier configuration. And NO you cant have my fenders! BUT, 42-47 fenders are different than 40-41 where the running board attaches.

Post your location info so folks can work with you to find your fenders.

Did you mean to ask if a 40 "fender" will bolt on your 46 truck? If so, they will but need a bit of work. The fender is slightly different where it attaches to the running board, here is the patch. EMS sells them.

Looking good. I’ll send a pic of mine. 20 1/2 inches from the bottom of the bed side the floor. IMG_1086.JPG

I'm planning a reversed eye rear spring with sliders, which could raise the rear 1/2 to 1 in. I only have 4 or 5 leafs in my present spring and if I add sliders between the leafs it will settle probably an inch. It doesn't move much now because of rust and wear.
I agree with B.A.KING on the springs settling at least an inch.

Yes, new parallel leaf springs, that have been under the truck for almost a year, but without any weight, really.

There are currently no lowering block, looks like I may need some.

I used a Chassis Engineering parallel leaf kit in my 39 pickup with new springs. The instructions of the kit said that the springs would settle about an inch after 500 miles of driving. I had to put 2-1/2" lowering blocks on mine in order to get the back of the truck to sit right. If you're thinking about lowering blocks, I made mine out of rectangular stainless tubing and it was really easy. Now the rear tires (7.00-16s) are slightly tucked in the fenders.

I used a WEEDETR parallel kit in mine, mostly because they claimed you wouldn't need lowering blocks. I'll know more when the fenders are on, but I'm thinking two inch blocks may be in order.

I installed the rear fenders, did some measuring, then installed two inch blocks.

    It looks about right....
