Triumph oil tank question...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, Jan 27, 2004.

  1. The bobber in the picture that Keith Weezner drew has an oil tank that looks like a sphere... who made them, how rare are they, when were they made and does anyone have a pic of one?

Also, how big around are they?

    TIA,

    Sam!

  5. Sphere or cylinder. Sorry didn't see the pick.
About one of everyone makes a cylinder tank.
For a sphere we used to use an old toilet float or a boiler float (br***). Of course that was back in the day. Who knows what's rad today.

  6. Pork'n ******... a sphere... the cylinders are all over the place and on e-bay for stupid prices...

I found a place that sells aluminum sphere's... so I figured I'd make one out of aluminum... should look *****en... they sell a 6"and an 8"... kind of expensive, but worth the look if it's something they don't make anymore... I need to find someone that sells aluminum caps and bungs now. [IMG]

look at places that offer spun aluminum gas tanks to see if they offer caps and ect, and since your working with a brit bike i asume you run into fitting problems between parts because they differ from standard u.s. stuff. ray posted a pretty comprehensive post about this the first tech week if i recall correctly. itd be worth checking out if you hadnt already

    good luck

Moon used to sell these separate.
Moroso has bungs and so does Earls.
The local speed shop has aluminum bungs as well.
    How many you need?

    Filtering system????
You are new to British bikes.
The spheres were either overflow coolant tanks or hydraulic reseviors from WWII planes, saw a few in the old days but havent seen one for years.

Man ive been looking to do the same thing to my 57 triumph. Sam hook it up with the info on the spheres. As for filtering system I didnt know that triumphs had em. Unless you count the oil that leaks out when they sit.
