So I'm getting ready to jump into rebuilding my '55 Caddy 331. I haven't finished the tear down yet or measured bore or crank wear so I'm not 100% sure of what I'll need but let's ***ume a full rebuild. I had lunch with some very knowledgeable old car nuts yesterday and asked their opinion on various vintage engine parts suppliers. Here's what they had to say:
Kanter -Cheap overseas parts. Steer clear.
Egge -Decent quality but expensive. Biggest problem is many things they list they will be "out of stock"
Falcon Global -Sells on ebay and have heard good reports. No personal experience.
I'm sure there are others, some perhaps Cadillac specific suppliers. Search Hemmings for ads.
I'd like to hear from you guys that have experience rebuilding vintage engines. I know it's going to be expensive and I'm ok with that, just want to save myself some trouble down the road.
Would also like to hear cam recommendations for this engine. Reliable mild street performance. Sticking with flat top pistons for stock 9:1 compression.

I've purchased stuff from Falcon Global (rocker arms, rocker shafts and a cam), no problems with them... Johnson still makes lifters for the later engines (390) but not the '55 331.

I bought a kit from falcon for a 365. Decent quality and name brand parts.

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't look like Northern Auto goes back as early as 1955.
