its probably not welcome on here, but its a cool car to me and its gunna be my first hot rod style car when i start driving when im 17.

its a 72 pan on a 68 body!the roof has been chopped about 6-7" its got suicide doors,it did have a side opeing bonnet but become to difficult to work with!the engine was a 1300 but now it has a 1679 conversion with some twin 40 kadrons, the suspension is just an extended adjustable beam, the rear will be lowered about 2 or 3 splines, but to stop the camber im in the middle of fabbing a raised transmission mount!the wheels are 17" 1934 ford wire wheels(thanks to ratty)wisbech engineering are in the process of making me some adapters to mount these.it should be rolling with the body on for the nhrc cleepthorpes show!but i hope it will be mot for the nationals in august.then i have to wait 2 more months after that to drive it cause thats when i turn 17!

i know it aint a hot rod but over the pond its the closest thing im gunna get to one at my age.

some of the pics are just how it looks now and back when i first started it.

yes i know, but the way i see it is,im gritting my hot rod teeth on that car, my next project will be a flathead powered modified, but it will only be for drag racing and blasting around at the shows cause insurance on a v8 powered thing for me would be huge.

  4. Not trying to be an ass ,but this ain't the place for VW's,,,,,a few HAMBer's have them but they know not to post them here!

    BTW,,,,the work looks good. HRP

I'd rather look at a well-executed VW than a hacked-up rat rod with a skull for a grilleshell and spiderweb accents ANYDAY.

This one being owned by a 16-year-old makes it cooler. I like it. :)

Welcome to the H.A.M.B. anyways, for your first hot rod style that car is real cool, it is better than what I had when I was your age and for a young kid to build a great looking car like that, is welcome on the H.A.M.B. keep posting your progress. I am sure there will be a few good Hamber that will give you some good pointer on you if you need them. You are still young and you have plenty of time to build a traditional hot rod if you like. Good Luck

What did you do to replace the fold at the front of the doors? where the hinges belong? Should be a cool Dub. I'm impressed for a 16 year old, keep it up.

i agree.i was raised in a hot rod family, but as all ya'll know hot rods (in any form)are expenseve for young guys,so i got into old VW'S.since then i have gotten into hot rods.the sad part is that now i can't afford the old VW's anymore.

I THINK THEY ARE A GREAT WAY TO GET INTO THE HOT ROD WORLD.

    Closet VW guy.

Nice work. Keep it up. Go ahead and post pics of it when you make headway. I think there are more of us that dig the fact that you're "involved" than there are of the "don't post that" crowd.

    Good job.

    Hot rodding is cool. :D

Mate thats a damn good way to hone the skills for your future Hot Rod project. Hell my first car was a 100E Prefect! Talk about UGLY, at least yours looks the part for a VW.
All the best with the car and if you did that cant wait untill you start building trad cars.

Most of those guys aren't on now... or they are biting their tongues because you are younger...

Virtually every post about VWs gets locked because of the drama.

I'm an old guy and I like your V-dub. Perhaps this isn't the place for them, but what the hell, any 16 year old that can build a car like that must have motor oil flowing through his veins, so I say "welcome!"

The VW was Hitlers version of a late 30s Ford, so the body style is OK. The flat four aircooled engine is what makes the VW so unacceptable in the eyes of hotrodders. It would be cool to use the bug body like a 37 Fiat Topolino body was used on the dragstrip in the late 60s---Leave the inner fenders off the front wheels, with the engine visible and headers sticking out, place the front axle out in front of all the sheetmetal. Of course I am talking about a real V-8 engine, with straight axles. That would be a HotRod in the traditional American style!

You're just a young kid and probably dont know this but you should if you're going to call your car a Volksrod. Volksrods were traditional looking T-buckets that had a VW motor under the pickup bed.

For those that think the HAMB hasn't changed from the days of old, Archive some old VW posts to see how the posters were ripped. That being said, I agree - its a cool VDub...

A V8 from a Rover would be badass poking out from under that little VW hood.

    Upswept pipes.

    Gasser style maybe.

    Hmmm....
