There was nothing in the rulebook that specified the required size of the headlights... however, brakes, hood, fenders and splash pans (if equipted) were required.

It does make a tough looking altered though...

  2. True, there is nothing in the rules... but, any self respected drag racer in the 60's would have NEVER put those headlights on his hot rod.

  3. What have you done?????
I'm not a gasser fan but have to admit it looks pretty good.

How driveable will it be with those skinnies on front?

just thinking over the pics some more- as AWESOME as it looks now, it would be perfect if the rear was raised an inch or so for the fender line to match up with the tire, it kind of contrasts wierd being right below the tire line, sort of distracting. But, sweet freaking car no matter what!

Love the coupe but..........It's not a Gasser. Gassers, by NHRA and AHRA rules, (1960's) were full fendered and could only have an engine setback of 10% of the wheelbase I seem to remember. What you have there is a damn fine "Altered" it could have competed as a competition coupe also but they had more in common with the dragsters. Altereds were the squireliest and most exciting cars on the strip, in my opinion. Especially the aa/fuel altereds They were kind of the funny cars of the day until the Ramchargers and the thunderbolts and the super stockers got started. I sold an engine I built to the Stone Woods And Cook guys for their b/gas Willys in 1966. Don't mean to correct anyone but I think altereds were cooler anyway.

I never raced in the 60s. . But I do have one thing to say about cars. If every person did what everyone else did.

we would all be driving the same cars around..

I only have the lights on there still because I do not feel like changing them..

I do appreciate you correcting me about it has an altered look not gasser.
I honestly did not know that.

I just do this shit for fun... I can't wait to run this on the strip!~

I will post some other photos when I get it ready.. I am in Nebraska right now!! I gotta alot of work to do by next weekend
