James Bowman Lindsay demonstrated electric light a decade or so before Ben Franklin, but like most discoveries the results are furthered for commercial benefits, Franklin did a bit of work as did other British inventors even encasing the filament in a glass globe then along came Eddison with the benefits in technology managed to produce a marketable bulb .. and to some degree gets the credit but Edison was well known for monopolising on other folks discoveries .. smart money capitalist ..
Its a bit like the vacuum cleaner, its been around for a bit in various guises, then Dyson reinvents it .. The real innovators are the guys with the original ideas .. Like Logie Baird.. Why invent a TV when, after all your labour you have the only one TV and nothing to watch .. Or Alexander Graham Bell, what makes you think about inventing a telephone ? Or Watson Watt and the Radar .. Really.. These guys are truly amazing.. and all Scottish Yep I do wonder about these kinda people, do they wake up in the middle of the night with an idea and a plan ?

 

I am so glad that I am an Engineer and just have to deal with numbers instead of words that dazzle the sesquipedalian.

 

Working both fields is positively funambulesque.

Having to disambiguate and distill numbers and words into platitudes for disinterested pedestria is intellectually painful.

It is not getting worse in amplitude, just in frequency. People have always been like this. There are just more of them now.

 

and all the while operating a hand held mobile or focussing more on the mundane conversation over a hands free than the numerous tasks of actually driving..

 

Some are so genius that they inspire classic rock music lyrics!!

I don't wonder about smart people, I wonder why so many not-so-smart people have such a loud voice!

Dad once offered that I was smart. He said man spent centuries perfecting knots, but give me an extension cord and I could invent several in just one afternoon!

 

Not to Hot Rod related but something to sit and ponder over . We are adults are supposed to wear a seat restraint of some type to safety operate a motor vechile . Then along comes this dude ridin a Bobber , Hardtail , hand jammer that requires you to remove one hand from the handle bars to operate it , and he is not required to wear any type of head protection in most states . Who’s the smart one here ? I can tell you I was first hand too cool for the “brain pan “ until I was rear ended , and before I knew what had happened I was inches from bustin the Mellon open on the guard rail . Would that have saved the impact damages ? Don’t know but I do know it damn sure would not have hurt more . This cool cat never rides with the brain pan anymore . Again who’s the smart one here ?
