Thanks to the help of some great friends she's back on the road where she belongs a lot sooner than I thought and I will spend the next two months making her strong enough for a daily driver. There is a lot to fix and do still to have a finished Kustom but I'm happy as hell to have her this far! I think my pinion angle is wrong because I hear a grinding noise when she is not underload but at traveling speed. Any o-pinions?
Mike, It looks amazing bro. And to think a few weeks ago it was in pieces. Can't wait to see it in person. ~J
You my need new u- joints .The u- joint may be rubbing on the bottom of the floor when just sitting an the drive shaft is spining. When you are under load it may not hit then.Or like I said you may have a few bad needle bearings bad in the u-joint.How much is the chop front to back?Post a side picture with out the skirts. I think it looks more sinister with out them .When you show how low the wheel well is droped over the tire.I also have a shoe box.Yours gave me a woody,What is the grille made of what piece? What make are those chrome rims .Nice work
Thanks Grinder. I looked underneath and didn't see any scratching on the floor but I suppose it may be too little too notice. With paint I should be able to tell. I don't think it's the trany. Chop is 4-1/4 up in the front and laid down until the right look was achieved. The grille I took a '63 Buick Riveria bumper and cut off the ends to make the grille. The bends were used to make the ends of the current piece. Needs a little more work in the back but the front came out great and no need to cut up 3 expensive '51 Ford grilles. The rims are chrome reverse standard offset in front with spider caps and no offset in the rear. I don't have a pic without the skirts or lowered all the way yet, but I'll definitely put it on the "to do" list!!
Hey, Check, as suggested, your front and rear U-joints, than if ya find nothing, jack up the rear of the vehicle and with the *** end off the ground and on jack stands, start the car and put it in gear. Get a buddy to run it through P R N D 1 2 and look and listen for clunks and whines. Is your pinion on the same plain as the tail shaft of the trani? If it's off more than six degrees, it's going to vibrate'n' *****. Does this have a rubber snubber above the third member/u joint, attached to the frame, and is it installed? Great lines to the chop, by the way, S****ey Devils C.C.
Thanks for the advice! I'll do just that. From my understanding the angle of the pinion should be opposite of the tailshaft to equal 0 under load. I will check it again. I do not have a snubber above the u joint as I have two C10 trailing arms as a four link set up. Here is a few pics...
Good looking car.Do you have any better pics of your truck arm installation, like the foreward mounts and crossmember?I have a pair of these arms that I am going to use on my 39 Merc.
I don't have more pics right now but the mounts are right next to the exhaust on one of the pics. You can only see half of it with the bolt. I'll try and get some more later!
ha ha love the striping and lettering on the back , bad *** ride man , whats the final color going to be ? i know how it feels to always be behind on everything , so getting ahead must be awsome !
Very frickin killa ride. Mine shoebox is so close to being on the road too I can taste it Your chop looks great,as does the stance too. Howsa bout some more details? The grillbar treatment is perfect.....Shiny
Thanks for the comments guys! Running an s-10 clip with s-10 rear end, '68 327 with Turbo 350 (until I change it to a 700). The color is going to be HOK Deep Organic Green with white tuck-n-roll interior, stay tuned...
