Just asking if anyone knows or has access to gl*** templates,or gl***. Would be great if around my area. Vancouver b. c. [emoji1063] Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
You may be better off making your own patterns out of 1/4" masonite. With the changes to gl*** and the fuzzy channels over the years, plus 91 years of use on the body and doors; original patterns may not be right. When you get to the moving windows; get the patterns hooked up and operating. You may may find left and right sides end up different too. Been reading a few threads about mail order gl*** "cut to stock patterns" not working out.
^^^^ What Rich said...Learned the hard way through MANY customers and their errors! Every window will be a 'pane'!
Still would be nice to start with a pattern. Thanks A guess I got to make my own pattern Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Just finished the windows on my T coupe not too long ago and it is still fresh in my memory. This is the only car I've ever encountered where the gl*** could not be slid in position in the door with the metal channel attached to it. Also, the felt runners need to go in at the same time. I had my gl*** cut and everything in place but when I tried to roll up the window, it would bind. The gl*** needs to be a fairly snug fit between the felt runners to the point where it cannot rock. This is due to the window regulator only having one arm and not a scissors arrangement. The felt runners guide the gl*** up and down. When you make your patterns, make sure that they fit good. In my case, I really didn't want to get more new gl*** cut and I had glued the gl*** to the metal channel with urethane instead of the gl*** tape because I had to do this inside the door and the only way it would separate would be to break the gl***. At that time, I discovered a posting by Canuck here on the HAMB about how he used Jeep Cherokee window regulators that run the gl*** up and down on a rack and pinion cable setup. This worked out great. I was able to retain my old gl*** and as an added bonus, I was able to relocate the window cranks lower in the door. In the stock position, they would have run into the ashtrays on the '40 Ford dash I'm using. Since I'm no longer in need of my repro T window regulators, PM me if you want them. On another note, I'm using a repro windshield frame on my car. When I got it, I tried fitting it on the car and noticed a big gap between the bottom of the windshield and the cowl. When I chopped the top, I took this into consideration and eliminated the gap.
What they said. After trying for five months to get gl*** cut correctly, I furnished paper patterns from original gl*** and guess what? STILL DOESN'T FIT!!! If you get patterns, make the Masonite pieces and fit EACH one in the channels and felts.... Believe me, you will be time and money ahead.
Really good info guys Glad I asked first before I ordered the gl***[emoji857] Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Another thing. Even tho everybody wants/pushes tempered gl*** now-a-days; laminated has worked forever and if something does end up off, it can be easily sanded to tune it up.
Install your choice of channel first and then take measurements to create your Masonite templates. Measurements from door to door can vary surprisingly.
