  10. Actually only limited to DOT hazmat and passenger carriers, unless changed since I retired. But NO over the road driver would think about it. We did have concrete and dump truck customers that ran super single retreads on the steer. Of course low speed and local.

    From a investigation done by the RMA when I was in the industry, where the gator backs were actually collected from all over the nation's highways and analyzed, the major cause of failure was from tires run flat or under inflated. The majority of "cheap" retreads were bias ply tube type tires on container chassis. All they had to do was make it from the railyard or port to the first drop. It took us two years to physically convert one large fleet to radials.
    It was ALL economics: The service call and down time was more than the "cheap" tire.
