Here is my 34 the day I hauled it home........it was sitting on a mid 30's chevy pu frame that had been "expertly" Zed in the rear (i love the frame over lap and quarter inch flat plate welded in) The doors are tied up because the wood is rotted out and i am currently working on a steel subfame to replace the wood.......
Yesssssssssssss.....it finally worked for me............. Now here are some pictures of my coupe as it sits now..........the chevy frame has been scraped........and a 2" x 3" rect tube frame with a narrowed rear section has been placed under it.......... I love these old tires i found on back of my 69 mach 1 too bad they are so dryrotted..........
My plans for this coupe are simple.......if i use full fenders i am putting 74 jaguar XJ12L suspension ft and rear.(no chrome).........if i go fenderless.....ft axle with a 67 mustang 8" rear or a narrowed 9".......I all ready have both rears just need ft axle suspension........ Engine is going to be a 86 roller cam 302 block and crank with rest converted over to Boss 302 parts.......been saving parts for a while........only parts i need to complete the build up are pistons and intake........this engine will be backed up with a top loader 3 speed(RAN TAG 2.99 first gear) with a hurst shifter out of a 69 mustang coupe i have.........the Boss likes to rev up and i love this trans in my 67 mustang coupe..........I am getting some more boss parts from my grandfather in law.......he use to tear up the dirt tracks and had several wins.......now i know why.....he describes one set of heads and intake he has .........it is different than the other boss stuff he has and i have never seen a cast iron boss 302 2x4-v intake before......i think it might be 68 tunnel port 302........if so it is going into the coupe......find out when he comes back from his run....he drives a truck......... Also putting a full bench seat in it..........Looking for fiberglass hood with sides made onto it and a fiberglass grill shell.......seen them before but can't find who makes them..........
I have tracked down a few owners and found out where the chevy frame came from.........The local parts store owner use to own it ..........he says he still has deck lid and fenders with a few other misc parts.....but in over a year he has yet to come up with them even after i have upped my offer for them........I have started looking elseware for those parts..........but no luck localy......... The body has the right stance for me as it sits but need to trim about 2" off each side of the parts comeing off the side main rail........The frame was originaly bought for a s-10 the owner had it welded together and never used it........a friend of mine got it to use and never got around to swapping it into his truck.......so after a short talk and a few car parts the frame was mine......The IFS is just tacked into place so i can move it around.....so is the 8" rear.........I am also decideing on how high to lift up the rear....once i lower the rear of the body firmly onto the frame I need taller tires in the rear to lift the body back up to get my rake back plus to help gain frame to ground clearance.......the frame has a made in driveshaft safety loop out of the main 2" x 3" now .....just has about 3" ground clerance....won't know how much to lift the ft end untill i get the engine mock mounted......
I feel sorry for the sheetmetal if you put it on that frame. It is almost as bad as everyone thinking an S-10 frame will bolt to everything...."it just bolted right up" My opinion,.. but make or get a set of repo rails, I am sure some okie will buy what is under the car now for enough to buy some repos. Do the car the justice it DESERVES!! Unless this is April first? I think that I am not the only one thinkin this, I just decided to type it intead of back click. FLIP
No offence bro, that frame is ugly.i'd go with a more period corect to the body frame.i mean what ya have now looks like it was off some truck.
Ill have to agree, the frame you built should not be under that body. In the pictures it looks like the frame is tweeked. Front end should be an I beam or atleast a droped tube. And the frame rails should be 32 ford. You can get repo frame rails from many companys along with the ibeams. If you leave the chassie as it is, many will shake their heads while your at a car show or shin dig. its embarrising ...
Yes and no........useing 351M heads........i know how to prep them just been gathering parts........trying to wait on my in laws to see what intakes he has........i know it came off of a 4 bolt main small block ford....but he no longer has the block.......so it narrows it down to 3 engines........68 tunnel port, boss 302, or boss 351(some 351 CJ) If nothing he has matches up I will need another source........either spacers, new cast manifold(a place in arkansas makes them), or find used one.........what type is it 4-v or something else........
Feel sorry for the sheetmetal.........is it not a greater crime to let them sit and rot........this one was closing in on being scrap metal when i found it......The frame was ordered for a s-10........so it is narrower than most.........This was not the first frame I ran a cross....the total drops in the side and width is very close to original frame.......75% of this cars time is going to be on the strip.....so a light weight drag frame is the way to go....and for the justice it deserves...........what coupe wouldn't be complete with out at least a few runs under it's belt.........and i am not going to cut the body to fit the frame........so i can always just unbolt it later......the guys before me did enough cutting on the floor to trying to get the chevy frame to fit.........
No offence taken.........I know the frame isn't glove perfect but it fits ..........and i am ready to take it to the track...........i also plan to do a little pie cutting on the ft of the frame to give a little bit of a curve and roundness to the open end........and the rest of the frame will be fully under the car and not seen............
The frame was allready together.......just triming the body mounts off the side to it for rear of the body to fully drop down.........I would perfer the I beam......I have a complete model A ft end minus the tranverse spring.......was looking for an A coupe when I found the 34.....so a change in plan and parts was in order........got rid of my 31 chevy woody project and starting focusing on the 34.........if I ever order a full repo chassis i am going to get it with complete suspension I want under it and going to just have to save up till then..........and i hate not being able to enjoy the car at all....... Most people shake there heads at most of the cars I have built around here....99.9% of them are die hard chevy......so I am use to being the underdog..........like my 91 s-10 pu powered by roller cam 302(same one to be put in the coupe)................a lot of peoples bitching just doesn't affect me anymore......
