I wanted to share my winter project that I finished a little earlier than expected. lol I was tired of all of the issues with ethanol fuel and vapor lock with the heat here in Florida, as well as, cold start issues, etc... I had been looking at switching to an EFI set up and finally made the move after much research. I ended up choosing a Dual Quad EFI set up from FITECH. I also decided to step up the cam as I had 215 lbs cylinder pressure with the current cam and moved to a Comp Cams Hydraulic Roller and have that down to 190lbs.... I have to say that the Fitech EFI is the bomb. I can walk out and turn the key, with no gas pedal, in 35 degree weather and it fires right up. What I am most impressed about is the throttle response and performance gain. I took it for a drive yesterday for the first time and all I can say is "OMG". Apparently the Edelbrock 750 was simply just not adequate for feeding this 408 cu inch engine as much as I had tuned the Edelbrock carb. I was actually just thinking the Ford 408 cu in engine is just no comparison to any of the Chevy motors I had in the past. ha ha. Well, before the EFI I could barely spin the tires from a stop and yesterday I pulled out of a parking lot and rolling from 25 mph I decided to crack the throttle and it literally just blew the tires off. It's like a completely different engine and actually felt like I had hit nitrous, but I don't have any. I am sharing a few pics of the set up and my custom injection air cleaners that I made. Very happy with the performance and the look. If anyone has an interest in a FITECH EFI set up I will be glad to help. It does take a little tweaking, but well worth it in my opinion...
I've been running Fitech on my 302 for over three years and I'm still happy with it. Are you running the FCC or in tank pump?
I went with the in tank pump after reading some issues with the command center. Plus I was trying to avoid putting anything more in the engine bay. Are you in tank or command center?
I take it back, the only problem I've had is I have an electric fuel pump before the command center that I sometimes turn off as a theft deterrent. With the CC it takes about three miles to run out of gas with the fuel pump off, lots of fun running 70 mph on the freeway and then running out of gas.
I am anxious to get my Sunliner out of upholstery jail so I can put some miles on my FITech equipped 302.
It seems like most of the problems I have read about have to do with improper installation, or maybe lack of knowledge as to what to do to get it setup. Obviously, you had a good set up. I will say this to those that are considering EFI whether it be FITECH or HOLLEY, ETC, if you anticipate just bolting it on and firing it up and it running great, you will have some issues. There are some minor set ups that you have to complete with the hand hand controller, buts it's no big deal...Just take your time and follow the instructions and do yourself a favor and watch a few videos. I read online and watched plenty of videos to get an idea what I needed to do and still had to play with it quite a bit. I do believe synchronizing the 2 quads made it a little more difficult, but I think I figured it out and love it...
I did it purely for aesthetic reasons. The system is good from 250hp to 600hp and I am only making around 450hp. With that said I am amazed at the performance gain from the system. I have been a drag racer for 40 years and have run very compe***ively in Pro Mod / Outlaw Street over the years, and I built my own engines, and tuned them. However, I don't believe I have ever been more impressed with the gain from a single system as this Fitech other than nitrous... Don't get me wrong, I had an Edelbrock 750 on here before, as I inherited it, and I have never liked Edelbrock or Carter carbs other than street cars and daily driving. I never was able to set up a Holley on the engine which I do feel would have resulted in better performance, but very happy with my move to EFI. This car was never put together for performance, but I am always happy to have some kick in the pants...
Not really, just up and down my street. Took it to upholstery on roll back since I was unsure of it true driveability. I am lucky to have a guy in the neighborhood who is a "tuner" who can help me sort it out if need be.
I have a 382 ci windsor with TFS hi ports in my Tbucket. I went from a Weiand dual plane to the same intake and it runs great and makes a bunch more power. The only thing is the mileage is less with twin Edelbrocks which is a concern when your fuel tank only holds about 8 gallon. The crazy thing is it never smells rich or over carbed.
I bought adapters from Medice Mfg. I do have a set of Pentroof sbf 427 valve covers from PAW when they were around. No adapters needed but they didn't fit the look I was after. https://www.medicemfg.com/products_get.php?c=Valve Cover Spacers - Ford
Nice. I have been looking at an FI tech for my 55. I had a new tank built for the conversion, but I just keep collecting parts. I think I may go with the Holley Sniper. It just costs to get it all ready to roll.
Very Nice!! I just picked up a Sniper system for my 56, can't wait to get it installed and see how it does. This work thing keeps slowing me down. LOL
