The big block Chevy also had the nickname of the semi- hemi, for the semi hemispherical chamber head. Chrysler hemi left big block Chevy right. big-block-hemi-recipe.jpeg

This SS396 ran like a raped ape. Replaced the center carb with a 500cfm Holley, mechanical linkage to the outers. adf.jpg 4sp, 4:456. One I wish I had back.

OK, nine pages of same-old-same-old medium-block stuff, so time to step up to big blocks. We just finished a 530" American Lafrance V12.

Two 12-cyl distributors, 24 spark plugs; it takes two experienced mechanics a full day to do an ignition tuneup.

Looks a lot like a 427 SOHC Ford to me. But there are small differences, fuel pump on the right side for one.

HAHA well we're sorta wondering if that might happen.....been thinking about entering it in the local county fair's truck pull. Engine package I went with dyno's at 525lb-ft of torque. I'm worried it might break a u-joint before that point though.....

First spotting feature for me is the square upper corner in the valve cover stamping. Harder to see in that photo is the two piece intake/valley cover unique to the Z-11 heads, while the aluminum water pump could be used on any W block.

  24. My "big block" 370 Pontiac. I could also post it in the small block thread. Or maybe it doesn't fit in either..... 370oncart.jpg
