I will be in Cali for this next week and would like to go to the SWAP on the 4th. But..I will be in San Diego and would have to drive 100 miles north to get to the pomona swap on sunday morning.

    Is it worth it...

hey tok, ya, it might be worth it... but in order for the trip to bear fruit, you should really go saturday afternoon and cut out around 3-4am sunday. it will more than likely be hot, 85-90 degrees mid day.

perhaps you should think about going to the antique nats at LACR... you will have more fun and i believe a lot of HAMB folk will be there.

    Sunday June 5th
    35th Annual
    Antique Nationals
    Drag Race and Show
There Is "NO" Charge to Rac or Show
Open To All Vechicles 1954 & Earlier (For Trucks OK thru 1956)
    Admission $15
    Kids 6 thru 16 $1
    For More Info Call 909-883-5340

For The Latest Update Call 661-533-2224

if you need help getting there send me a pm, i can help steer you in the right direction.

I would say that really depends on what you are looking for. Chevy stuff yes, old Ford and flathead stuff not anymore.

Guys thanks for the input. I will be on my "honeymoon" and am trying to squeeze this into our agenda..

Plan 9, i didn't know about that show, I might mull over that for a day or two. If I get in a jam I will let you know.

Thanks for your input guys..it really helps.

I don't know your bride but if you're going to pull her out of San Diego to go to Pomona Swap...I would NOT recommend it. She'd have to be a full-on gearhead to want to leave San Diego before dawn, drive 100 miles, just to walk around a jammed parking lot in the hot sun on the outside chance that you may find something that is way to big to drag home again. Pomona is a good place to hang with buddies, drink a few cold ones, and watch the babes...

  9. Dragged the wife once, she's into cars but hated Pomona, too much walking around looking at stuff that just looks the same.
If you are a Chevy guy it's a must, as Ford guy you'll find almost nothing anymore, I don't know why???

Wait and go to the one on Fathers Day so you can see the most insane and idiotic prices on shit, a guy last year had a 33 Ford pick up cab and don't get me wrong it was nice, but fuck $8,500. There was also an original BELL steering wheel there for $1,000 and if it sold I am taking mine and putting it up for grabs.

I like it, I go to Pomona every chance I get.

You gotta know where to go to get the deals, as there is alot of bullshit there. You'll walk past 90% of the shit there and look at about 10% or less. Try to stray away from the professional swap seller and try to get to the guy thats cleaning his garage, he has all the deals.

I've walked away with damn good deals everytime I've been there. Like 53-56 Ford truck front brakes, spindales everything for $20, 39 Chevy steering column with wheel and box for $10. Just gotta look and ask around.

Good luck. Be prepared to walk alot.

You can always take in some of the cruise nights around San Diego. JT and Whitney stopped by El Cajon when they were out here a few years ago. I guess I've been out of the rust belt too long, JT had to remind me that cars that old should not be that rust-free! Shoot me an email or PM if you need anything while you're here...SeaWorld, Zoo, etc discounts etc.

Pomona is great if you're in the mood for it. Would I take a chick? not if I wanted to get anything done, cuz there's walking and more walking, and it gets *hot*, fast. There's also a ton of cars to look at. I've seen cars that I read about in Street Rodder Magazine 10 or 15 years ago in the parking lot to be sold or just shown off. At least I can remember the important stuff! :D

If you really wanna go, leave for Pomona at an ungodly early hour, like 3 am? 4am? I"m not sure when it opens. Go do the walk through, and hustle back to SD, hopefully before your wife wakes up and notices you left! ;)

You'll be able to haul ass on the freeway at that hour, you'll beat the crowd at the swapmeet, and you traffic shouldn't be to bad on the way back.

Ideally I'd like to arrive there between 6-7 am. That sun gets brutally hot before you know it. Then again, my tolerance for heat is nil after living in LA (moved from Texas) for ten years.

I always go,not to look for parts but to see my friends and hang out.Sometimes I even buy a car.But the swap at the Fathers Day show is much better.I like walking around outside more than inside though.

I'd say absolutely. When we lived in San Diego, my wife and I would go at least twice a year. It meant getting on the road by 4:00 - 4:30 AM but my wife is a car chick and she always dug it. The "car show" in the parking lot is always interesting.

I've never been to the Pomona swap, and would want to go just because of that, but Tokyo is getting spoiled because of the Carlisle and Hershey swap meets here in PA.

    Have fun on the honeymoon!

  21. One of the favorite swaps for most folks is the L.A. Roadsters show but thats on Fathers day weekend at the Fairplex in Pomona June 17th-18th. If your trip gets postponed, definetely go to that one. And yes, Pomona gets brutally warm this time of year. - bring yer Bonneville hat and a ton of water. Leave the girls home unless they're dedicated garage girls. :)

if you have the chance to go to pomona id would for sure go

it has a ton of cars plus a cool swapmeet and like bob said its a cool place to hang out and have a beer and chat with people

    ill be there

and new SUV's i dont think so unless they want to pay $100 to get in (there are a few but about a 500:1 ratio compared to hot rods)

and also whoever was saying about the show on sunday june 5th check your calendar homie sunday is june 4th and its pomona time!!!!!!

oh yeah and if you want some good mexican food hit el merendero on fairplex next to the track when your heading out

pomons opens at 5 am rain or shine for whoever was asking that

  24. ok not to change the subject but....can a person who parks in the sell/show section go in on sat during the day AND hit the swap part, are there people selling then? i've been going for years and don't know............

THanks for all your input..but we didn't go. Even though my wife rented a car and everything...I didn't have enough time to go. We were so spent after each day in that "it's soo hot at 80 degrees and NO HUMIDITY" weather you cali boys have...

Unbelievable trip..thought I did stumble upon a show on sat in balboa park, saw a 47 merc woodie wagon and some other cars as I caught the tailend of the show..the auto museum was cool...

i will have pics on my fotki site sometime this week. CALI rules...

Yeah man I've become a real crybaby when it comes to heat since I've lived in LA for 10 years...when I go back to Texas I *REALLY* have some heat to cry about!
