Has anyone ever seen a set of these?? Seems to me I saw a Model A running a set of these in a magazine years ago. They were cast and split each bank of cylinders into two, so there were four collectors, four pipes. Anyone else got pics of these???? How efficient would they be??
I think originally there was actually a secondary manifold that brought it all into a single for each side? And I'm pretty sure Germ owned a set of these at least for a little while. There could be pictures on here somewhere?
They were on 1957 Chevrolet Black Widow racecars ... for NASCAR ... I had a set ... would not fit on my 32 Ford roadster with Vega steering ... or about any other kind either ... I SOLD them ... but I do mean SOLD THEM ... $575 ... about 10 years ago ...
Drove a '56 Chev 210 2 dr wagon for a while with these ... 4 each headpipes, 30" glasspacks, & 2" tailpipes to the back. Plenty loud, even with long mufflers. I bought 2 sets in 1977 at Cheaper Charlie's in Colorado, at $30 a set ... I've heard of them selling at $2500 recently (?). Sold a set to a guy in Iowa rebuilding a '34 Ford 5 window/265 Chev his dad had built - hope he's a member here ...
Here's the pair of Fentons I have. Is this what you're talking about? Also, here's a pic of a FE Ford header. Think it's a Hedmann. I have the pair. I've never seen another pair like them.
I just happen to know where I can get a set for cheap. Hadn't bought them before, because I don't intend on running a SBC in anything. HMMM
Yes those are the ones, exactly. Thanks for the pics. And , Wrenchbender, you could pass on your good fortune.... Looking for something like that, but I am a notorious tightwad.
a shot of a complete sbc set up! intake -- valve covers -- manifolds now just add a fenton three carb fuel block and your ready to go.
so what does a guy need todo to get a set of these from one of you. I have been wanting a set of these for a really long time and would like to get a set. let me know.
Has it been that long ago ? Time flys ... I know you got yours about the time I sold mine ... There was a article in Hot Rod magazine along that period of time ... on " Black Widow " Nascar 57 Chevrolets ... and that's how I found out about how RARE ... they are. If my old memory serves me correctly, Mine had been ground on or cut ... in the generator mount area ... But ... the guy just HAD TO HAVE THEM ... and stepped up ... $$$ Bet it takes a lot higher STEP ... to STEP UP now ..
I remember you selling those. Ya' had'em on a table at the Metrolina Fairgrounds Swap Meet for BIG $dough$ (I thought it was about $700-$900 and thought you were outa' your mind ). I looked at them and knew they were something special. Then I recall seeing that Hot Rod magazine article you mentioned and saying WOW, they are special, and you weren't outa' your mind afterall. NOW, I gotta' have some of those . I think I paid more for mine than the selling price of yours. I got the tubing parts which I think yours were lacking, so I didn't feel too bad. At that time I was deep in 5-6-7 Chevys and had a '57 150 2-door I was going to build as a street Black Widow. I collected and still have the complete '57 Fuel Injection set-up. I wanted that bad too. So bad in fact, I traded a restorable '57 Chevy convertible for it. The set-up includes the 283hp distributor, fuel filter and passenger car air filter w/element inside. I also collected the special generator, deep groove pulleys, foot operated windshield washer and right side exhaust manifold with no choke heat riser tube hole. Never did get the electro-vac pump for the vacuum wiper motor. I was going to use electric. I distinctly remember when I bought the Fentons, because it was the same weekend I bought the Andretti 3n'1 Offy Kurtis Kraft midget outa' New Jersey. I dovetailed my trip up north to fit in with the Spring Carlisle weekend. Seems like I always had money in my pocket back then. I guess it was because I was working 3 jobs. Michelin, National Guard and hustling cars. Those days are gone. Car prices are sky high and pension check is way low . But we're still having fun, aren't we?
Hot Rod, I never really considered selling the Fentons. When I said STEP-UP, I wasn't making reference to the pair I have. BUT..........................., As they say, "make me an offer I can't refuse". And no, I'm not interested in trading for any foreign car parts, especially something that's repoped. (that outa' shake Deuce Roadster up some, I like doin' 'dat, he shakes so nice , I shouldn't do it, but I like'm ).
I think I asking $700 or so ... This guy and gal came by ... and she wanted them BAD ... for her car ( so she said ) and she was cute ... had big headlights ( on high beam too ... ) and nice rear seat. Real cute with brown hair and beautiful eyes ... smelled good too ... When she reached into her BRA and pulled out 5 one hundred dollars bills, ... and he pulled $75 from his pocket ... I was " influenced .... ... too say the least " And they left with the Fentons ...
Wanna get sick? Find the 1970 R&C with the shop tour article about Fenton Mfg, and look at the pile of never sold Fenton headers (including the sbc ones) rusting away on the loading dock, destined for the smelter.
