I have a '34 Ford with 5 on 4 1/2 wheel bolt pattern. Stock it came with 5 on 5 1/2. I ordered SBCC disc brake kit thinking it would be a simple job. That was 2 months ago. The SBCC experience didn't help matters but I wont get into that. The problem is with mounting the p***enger side rotor/disc. They mount fine but the Vega cross steering rods that must move laterally in order to steer the car are blocked by the caliper. The caliper bracket places the caliper in the way of the steering rods. Imagine a 24 hour clock on the spindle. The GM 11" calipers are ginormously huge and mount at the 7:30 or 8:30 position. I 'd like them to mount say around the 11:00 position. No help finding such an animal yet. Water jet cutting make the bracket too weak. I'm stuck ! Any help ??

Switch the calipers and brackets side-for-side.

Can’t you reposition the calliper on the front side of the hub ***embly ?
Is it possible to swap left for right thus putting both on the front of the hubs ?
Or make new brackets to do this.
Pictures are always a help in these situations !

Calipers do not care what position that they are in, as long as the bleed screw is on top.

Now that I think about it, I don't think that I have ever seen caliper brackets that mount calipers like that:

Are you sure you don't just have them flipped over?

We really could use some pictures.

That’s what I was thinking, but with lack of photos, hard to say.

the calipers never are at the lower end of the clock. Always 9-3 is caliper mounting basics 101. If your running square back spindles it will rotate 90 degrees normally with no problems. But I think someone hit the nail on the head, swap side to side, try installing the caliper brackets at 10-11 pm on the p***enger side, and 1-2 am on the drivers... so basically they calipers are leaned back toward the cab.

    Not so.

I have worked on any number of cars, mostly late-model supercars, where the caliper is in the bottom hemisphere of the rotor.

Only furriners use a 24-hour clock.

Picture from SSBC's web sight; looks more like upper quadrant, either front or rear. Maybe just have to get the caliper brackets in the right place

Hey thanks guys. I really appreciate your help not only with this problem but with others that I've had. I finally scored the correct caliper brackets and they fit fine ! YAY ! but man what a h***le it was with the vendor, things like sending me the wrong or missing parts, galling of the caliper mounting bolts/nuts (I had to cut off the danged supposedly grade 8 nuts/bolts !) wrong spindle outer bearing and nut etc., etc. I just hope that there are no surprises when I get my truck on the road again. Please forget I ever referred to a 24 hour clock. DUM. Thanks again.
