    Hey guys,

I just cannot figure out what the hell is up with this rearend I have. I gotta 23 T with what I believe to be a mopar 8 3/4inch rearend. It is the banjo type with drop out center section and smooth, round housing. Most of the ID numbers on it have been grinded off to give it that smooth and hard to identify look. The carrier is held to the housing with "11" bolts. Not 10 or 12......."11". It has a 1 3/4inch pinion so I am ***uming it is a "742" carrier but I don't know forsure. Anyway, one of you you-ole-rodders have probably seen one of these beast.

    Any help....would help!

    Thanks!

  5. You are correct, that is an 8-3/4 mopar rear end.

fwiw, the pics in my 55-56 plymouth shop manual show an 11 bolt carrier....and the spare housing for my wife's 70 dart has only 10 studs.

    I've never used a gasket on my 8 3/4's.
Parts are pretty easy to come by too.
WAIT......are the drums held on with a large nut?

    That must be a very old 8 3/4 -- like 1950 something ?
if it has a axle nut , its a tapered axle rear ,those ended early 1964 --

Parts may be a little different than a later 8 3/4 and harder to find.
