I’ll be working in LA (Ontario area) next week. This is my first trip to California and would love to see some hot rod related sites while I am there. Any recommendations? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The NHRA museum is a good one....early on Saturdays, Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach is good also....How long are you here for?
Peterson Museum, terminus of Route 66 ! which is not the Santa Monica Pier, though that is fun ,too. Look up Justice Brothers Museum, very cool Sent from my moto g(6) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Are you going to be working in L.A. or Ontario? Two different cities and a several miles apart and are not associated in any way or even in the same county. If you're in Ontario, visit the Early Ford Store in San Dimas. They close at 12 noon in Saturday and closed on Sunday. If you're going to be here on Jan. 6, the Long Beach Swap Meet in Long Beach and then on Jan. 13, the Pomona Swap Meet is going on in Pomona at the L.A. County Fair Grounds. Grand National Roadster Show at Pomona Jan 25 to Jan 27. Or go to the beach. Any beach and you'll see some rods.
http://www.socalcarculture.com/events.html If you do Los Angeles https://www.petersen.org/ https://www.farmersmarketla.com/ Those two above are more like Midcity- Mid Wilshire. The next ones is downtown maybe evening stuff http://www.grandcentralmarket.com/ https://angelsflight.org/ worlds shortest railway if you are into music or danicing https://www.swingdance.la/ You can use Metrolink from Montclair, just north of Ontairo to get to LA and Hollywood area Pomona Swap is also that Sunday. Not the greatest but a good one to check out so you can hate it from afar.
"Pomona Swap is also that Sunday. Not the greatest but a good one to check out so you can hate it from afar."... Too true, Abe.
If you’re in Ontario, Flo’s Airport Cafe for breakfast. If you’re a plane enthusiast, Planes of Fame in S. Chino at Chino Airport is a great place to visit.
I’m staying in Ontario but will be going into LA several days. Thanks for the tips for sure!!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Oh, Good God! You must be a glutten for punishment.[emoji3] The traffic will be very bad. This is a bumper to bumper drive. Take an ice chest full of food each trip. I'm kidding of course but the traffic will be pretty bad unless you take the metro every day. Good luck. Sent from my SM-G930T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I've driven 95, NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, but the freeways in LA this Fall win the prize. No way I'd do that for a commute-even at 5 AM on a Sunday driving to the airport.
If you do visit LA Downtown, use meter parking or ask the rate before you park, some of them show 4.00$-8.00$ but then "first 15 min" very little. If you find a good one it will be about 5-6bucks all day. It is probably the biggest tourist scam in LA. Traffic on the weekend before 10am and after 3-4pm is usually fine. Pomona- Ontario and Orange County traffic is nothing compared to the I10/405 in Los Angeles. The traffic is light right now because some people are out for winter break. If you do Pomona Swap, you can get in as early a 6am if your a spectator. If you hook up with someone with an old car you can go from Sat night. If you walk up as a spectator that first section is all VW stuff. You need to walk another 1/4 mile to the start of the swap. Take a lunch and water in a bag. also bring a hat and sunglasses. Also good walking shoes.
I love the Long Beach and Pomona Swap Meets. Are they perfect? No, but I'm thankful that we have them! If you are in SoCal during one or both, be sure to go! Lots of great recommendations above. You should be able to hit a cruise night every day of the week.
I really need to get out to see that. I've seen tv shows about it, but never been there yet. That might be a good destination for a cruise.
If you do the Nethercutt you need to make a reservation for the tour through the main building with the really high end stuff. I have been 3 times and would go again.
If you're headed to the Nethercutt, make an appointment for the San Sylmar tour. Really worth doing, and it's free.
These folks were so nice, so kind, and we were the only ones visiting the museum! https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hmn/2008/08/The-Justice-Brothers-Automotive-Museum/1675954.html
Absolutely one of the most interesting museums I have ever been to. And as has been mentioned, be sure you make a reservation to see the tour. The reproduction of a 1920's Lincoln showroom is mind-boggling. If you are anywhere near LAX, there is a pretty cool museum about 5-10 minutes away, if I recall correctly. It is called the Automobile Driving Museum and is located at 610 Lairport St., El Segundo, CA 90245. Admission is a donation. Enjoy.
