i thought it was a straight shot to the box but i was a lil off with the u joint in .The bottom of the column rotates in a circular pattern when i turn the wheel .Now is it cause the ujoint or cause the column isnt fastened at the firewall yet what would be my cure ?[IMG]

the column has to be secure top and bottom anyway so try that first and it will probably fix your problem.

    i dont see a u joint??

  4. Try to secure it but leave a little room for adjustment and it should go away. Your set up is real similar to what I did but the Ujoint takes the wiggle out of it.

You sem to be putting the cart before the horse here. You should really install the column where you want/need after mounting the steering gear for best steering geometry. After both are secure, then you mock up the shaft to come up with dimensions for the shaft and joints. I don't see any clearance issues, so it should be easy to backtrack. Remember not to go over board with the shaft components. One of the most basic safety devices you have is a weak shaft arrangement that will keep the wheel out of your chest in a front collision. You don't need a collapsible shaft, necessarily, Just a weak joint and column not directly in line with the shaft.

  6. Yep...I just did a similar setup this weekend, but mine went to a R&P. Any slop that I had cleared up as soon as I tightened the clamp at the base of my column. I used the same bracket, too...common on 70's GM.
