Beautiful car, my very first hot rod T-shirt was a '34 and I always have had a thing for them. And as for the honesty, I had a set of heads at a swap meet and I cheap sold them for lack of interest. The guy went to get the money and a guy that had looked at them early that morning came back and offered me double. I told him that the guy that was buying them was going to be right back. The guy was late getting back, but I was true to my word. Buyers 1 and 2 both admired my integrity and now all 3 of us are friends. Karma.
I look forward to seeing how the irons are dealt with...as far as maintain geometry & function. There is a lot that most people don't realize in something that might seem so simple...meaning "just take 3 inches out". .
Awesome reshape of the side window frame. The lean gives the cabriolet .... quite the racy look. Man do I dig that !!
From this to this by taking 1/4" out of the body frame. The devil is in the details. And the tail light stands shortened 2" with '37 Chrysler lenses.
Eli's hi-tech tool to reshape the frame without damaging the chrome, and it worked! Hot rod ding at its best.
‘36 Ford headlights, 2 1/4” chop, ‘37 Chrysler tail light lenses on 2” shortened stock stands. Gettin’ there! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
At my age and experience, few cars are worth my time, even to inspect in detail let alone build. This is one of the best I've seen in a LONG TIME! Thanks for sharing, I love it.
I am really impressed. You have taken a car that most would be afraid to modify and are making something truly special. This is how you build a hotrod. I am constantly flabbergasted on the truly weak and soft "hotrodders" on this site. You always take the best car you can afford and hotrod it. Common sense. If you are afraid to hotrod and modify something delete your profile and head over to the Ford Barn and restore something for future hotrodders. I really like the changes you have made so far. Oh, and ditch the cowl lights and put turn signal in the headlights. Okay. I'm done. Carry on hotrodders.
I think we will ditch the cowl lights, but we've painted the bodies to match the head and tail lights just in case. The devil is in the details.
Oh, and I LOVE your car. Most would be afraid to go that way on the paint scheme, but it flat out works. Al Lytle of "Big Al" Allison fame, had a similarly painted, heavily chopped / full fendered, Deuce 5W with a Hemi that is one of my dream cars. It sort of disappeared off the face of the earth.
No such thing, as one too nice to cut! Smart way to build a hot rod is to buy the best car you can, then cut it and build a bitching hot rod!
That's it!! Wouldn't you love to find that now. It had a 6 carb, set back Hemi, and the cowl was removable for access if I remember correctly. Bitchen'
I met Jim at the CHRR and talked to him for a while. He said the car disappeared in the 50's and he never saw it again. It was his first hotrod. Picture was taken in Texas. He was in wheelchair at the time I spoke with him. He's gone now. Neat guy that did more than most. My friend Squeak Bell owned his White cabover for a while.(The Brahma Bull) If I ever come up with a 5W 32 body I will clone this car. Sad thing is I had a 32 5W body when I was younger and gave it back to my brother who had given it to me for free. It was a nice body too. I was too young and dumb at the time to know what I had.
Gave Eric Black a few things I wanted incorporated into the car, and he came up with this design. Eli English then knocked it out of the park! Next is a new Black top, and a Cognac leather interior. To say I'm happy would be a gross understatement! Notice the angle change on the B pillar.
